I can’t find a website that breaks things down in a way useful to my inquiry.
I need to know what percentage of philosophy majors (grad and undergrad) in the US are African Americans.
Anyone know where I can find this info?

I do not, but would be interested in seeing it.
I can say that the program I received my BA from was at least 95% white, substantially less diverse than the school or even the humanities department as a whole.
This article (subscription maybe required) says that students who chose “Humanities and Other Majors” upon entering college are 2.5% African-American, compared to 3.9% for the overall population studied (U. Texas students at three campuses.) It doesn’t break it down further than that, though.
The National Center for Education Statistics publishes a “Digest of Education Statistics” annually. They lump together Philosophy with Religious Studies, but here are the numbers of degrees awarded to African-Americans in 2008-9:
[ul][li]Bachelor’s: 761/12,444 (6.1%)[/li][]Master’s: 99/1,859 (5.3%)[]Doctoral: 41/686 (5.9%)[/ul]Data for past years is also available, as well as overall data for all majors & degrees.

That’s too bad that it lumps them together…
I wonder if I might be able to get in contact with someone at the NCES about this question. I’ll look into it…
