I need help from veterinarians and PETA types, please.

I’m trying to find articles about why one is NOT supposed to take an inside, domesticated cat and let it go outside in the wild to fend for itself.

Why I need this is a long story, I’m not a happy camper, and I don’t want to go in to it. If y’all have some links to send me I’d appreciate it, though.

Thanks.

IANAVOPT (I am not a veterinarian or PETA type) but maybe one of these can help:

Find more here: http://www.google.com/search?q=domesticated+cat+release+wild

I found this site, but I don’t know if it’s what you want. It’s more about the pain of the ass it is for people than how bad it is for the cat. Although the last sentece is “NEVER intentionally release cats into the wild. It is inhumane, harms our native wildlife, and is against state law.”

That page also has links to other sites at the bottom that may be helpful.

This site is about pet care in general, but it does mention reasons for keeping housecats indoors.

Sorry I couldn’t help more, but that’s all I could find. I’ll do a more thorough search when I have more time.

Are you talking about just letting an inside cat go outside, like for a while? “Nice kitty, wanna go outside…?” Or are you talking about taking an inside cat down to the forest preserve and abandoning her? “Oh, her instincts will kick in, she’ll be fine, there’s lots of mice out there for her to eat…”

If #2, I suggest either legal action or a quick whap with a clue-by-four.

Check out the links on this page for the nasty low down and potential problems.

If I’m not mistaken, it is a federal crime for anyone but a licensed rehabilitator to release any animal into the wild.

What a stupid title … was late and I was upset when I started this. I’m still upset but it’s not so late.

Thanks all for the links - I really appreciate your help.

DDG - the latter, not the former. Although it’s not the local forest preserve, it’s the local dairy barn - I just didn’t think anyone would be able to find articles on why letting a housecat go in the barn is a bad thing. Nice to know such articles exist.

Thanks again.

As I suggested last night, try to find a no kill shelter for him. I’m not sure where you are in Minnesota, but these people may be able to help you.

Try looking for kitty foster homes…they’re out there-we got all of our four cats from foster homes-three of them from the same place.
