I am at wits-end trying to figure out what happened with my Dragon NaturallySpeaking software.
To explain:
I have had this software for a long time, I just never used it. Recently, I have started using this software in Microsoft Word, and yesterday the software simply refused to work in Word. It works in other programs, such as notepad, but when I try to use it in Microsoft Word, it simply does not recognize anything.
Obviously, I have changed settings in one of the two programs, I hope there is someone out there who can tell me the specific settings that I need to change.
I think you have to have word installed before installing DNS. If you upgraded word you will need to reinstall DNS. IF you upgraded word to a version that did not exist when DNS v5 was released it most likely won’t work.
My sister-in-law uses DNS extensively (she can’t use a keyboard) and this problem occurs with her too. Not always MS Word, IIRC. For example, I think her most recent problem was that it stopped working with her e-mail program (Outlook, I think).
As an unsatisfactory workaround, she had to compose emails in another program and cut-and-paste into her emails.
She called the publisher of DNS but they were of very little help. The only way she can get it fixed when this happens is to uninstall and reinstall DNS.
By the way, she finds DNS to run extremely slowly on her less-than-cutting-edge PC (I think it’s a 300 MHz P2 or similar, but with plenty of RAM). Do you have that problem?
I am still using Windows 98 on a 600 mghz pentium.
I was hoping to avoid reinstalling, because I do not have the box to DNS it is two years old.
Cutting and pasting is a very unsatisfactory workaround to be sure, though I am doing exactly that.
Not only is the company useless, but they want me to pay $19.95 to be advised of what is wrong.
When it was working, a few days ago, it performed very well, considering that it was still new to my voice. It was getting better as time went by, and I corrected it enough.
