When I lived in New Zealand I always liked the holiday for “the day after New Year’s Day” on 2 January. In 2006 it will actually fall on 3 January because the New Year’s Day holiday itself will occur on 2 January.

My birthday (December 16) is Barbie and Ken Backlash Day.
In the US, in most years, April 15th is the day your tax return must be in the mail. Consequently, most American CPAs take that day off, after having worked long hard hours since January 1st. They figure (!) their clients either have it all done by the 14th, or have filed for extensions. Number-crunchers from sea to shining sea go out and get crunched.
When the 15th is on a Sunday, the deadline is extended.
November 16 is Worldwide GIS Day. (GIS being Geographic Information Systems). And in our celbration of that at CDC (centerc for disease control and prevention) I won a USB drive for knowing that September 19 is International Talk like a Pirate Day. The USB drive is from the PHIN (public Health Information Network)
(I wanted to see how many acronyms I could work into that post. After all, I do work for the federal government and one of our most important jobs is making up acronyms for things so that not even we know what we’re talking about any more.)
For decades I always took a walk the Sunday after New Years Day. After the holidays have passed and the decorations are down, you need a day to comtemplate your life and where it’s going and what has changed, yada yada yada.
When I read in Robert Fulghum’s “It was on Fire When I Lay Down on it” I was amazed to discover he does the same thing and calls it “Pondering Day.”
