I need odd holidays

I am doing a photo calendar for 2006. I can add up to 20 holidays. I plan on putting in some birthdays but only about 7-8. I’d like to add some odd holidays.

One of the days that I have is May 4- Star Wars Day ("May the 4th be with you). I once ran across a Scandahoovian pun holiday that was similar. Does anyone know that or have other holidays to suggest?

thanks,

whistlepig

I assume you’ve already added Boxing Day on Dec. 26?

September 22nd is Hobbit day.
As in Have a Happy Hobbit Day.
The shared birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins.

September 12, 1966 was the original air date of the original Star Trek episode.

And don’t forget the 5th of November.

Well, there’s always Parade Day – March 4th (forth).
And Talk Like a Pirate Day, just recently, but I forget the exact date.

Crap Wiki says September 8, 1966 for Star Trek. Sorry.

Root Canal Appreciation Day May 10th
Hug Your Cat Day May 19th
National Underwear Day August 9th (I have some friends who celebrate this holiday)
Blame Someone Else Day Jan. 13th

Pi day? (Depending on where you live this varies, given the fact that Americans put the month first, but other countries don’t.)

Talk Like a Pirate Day: September 19th

How about August 8, which is “National Sneak a Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Night”? The nature of the associated festivities is obvious.

This charming harvest festival commemorates the fact that amateur gardeners who grow zucchini always end up with tons more of them than they can persuade reluctant friends and relatives to accept as gifts. No, I did not make this up.

Oh, and don’t forget Festivus, which I will leave it for others to explain as I have to sign off now.

Unusual holidays (no, the website appearance isn’t great, but you can find such gems as National Whiner’s Day (December 26).

Towel Day

Not much else to add. My personal favorite holiday.

Another calendar maker here. One of my favorite resources is Chase’s Calendar of Events. It has holidays, birthdays, TV show premier dates, famous moments in history, fairs and festivals, etc. It’s expensive, but perhaps your library might have a copy of last year’s edition.

October 23rd is Mole Day!
It’s based on the number 6.02 x 10 to the 23rd so you celebrate at 6:02 (am or pm or both).

You can dress up as a mole and serve guacamole (made from real Avogadros…).

Scotchtoberfest is celebrated on the third Friday of October

And don’t forget Festivus on December 23.

Dammit! Now I’ll have to wait another ten years for an opportunity to use the avocado/avogadro pun. Oh well.

I don’t know who August Bank was, or why he’s so special, but he has his own holiday.

I always use the e-card sites as a guide to odd hollidays. Check a couple of those.

June the 12th. It will be June The 12th Day.

The oddest holiday I ever heard of was Malvinas day in Argentina (June 12 or 13). As it was explained to me by my Argentine colleagues this was the day commemorating when they surrendered the Falkand Islands (Islas Malvinas) back to the UK. It’s hard to imagine the USA celebrating the fall of Saigon, for example. Or the Brits commemorating Cornwallis’ surrender at Yorktown.
