My mom had a quadruple bypass nearly ten years ago. She’s more active than I am, nowadays! It’s terribly scary at first, but the good people at the hospital get them on their feet and going, then the healing is so much faster than you expect. I’m sure it’s all going to be fine, don’t forget to take care of yourself, along with everyone else!
My dad had a quintuple bypass a year ago tomorrow. He’s the same age as your FIL, and doing and feeling MUCH better since then! The recovery is tough (taking it easy for a while), but once he’s through it, he’ll be good as new!
Best Wishes and be strong!
I’m vibrating positively, or is that positively vibrating?
Good thoughts, prayers and well wishes are streaming your way!
Well, I was kind of saving this particular vibe for my trip to Atlantic City.
It was given to me by an old gypsy woman when I saved her from an escaped slavering African bear.
But, if you need it, here it goes…
MMMMMMBBBBSSSSSSZZZZZAP!
Vibe sent.
That should do the trick for ya.
Good thoughts, prayers, vibes, wishes and crossed fingers headed to Ocala. It’s amazing what they can do with heart bypass surgery these days. Since he’s always been active and such I’ll bet he recovers just fine.
You know if y’all need me I can be there. Just let me know.

Warm thoughts heading your way! You are in my thoughts.
You all have no idea how much this thread is helping me! Especially those of you whose relatives have had this surgery. It’s funny how one can be all intellectual and detached until someone near and dear is involved. Like gallbladder surgery, which I had, seemed no biggie, until my husband had to have it done.
Yeah, OK, I tend to play out every worst possible scenario in my head. I’m weird that way. My intelligent side reminds me that he’s where he needs to be getting the care he needs to get. Further, he’s in a major retirement area so the doctors are used to dealing with diseases of the aged. And he’s a very strong man who never really retired, despite not going to the office every day. Still, I worry about my MIL, and my husband, and my daughter, and my nephew. So all your good wishes and gypsy vibes  really mean the world to me.
I’m sure everything will work out fine. But I’ll continue to fidget and fret some more, and I’ll keep coming back here for reassurance. Youse are all the best!
Sending love and prayers and positive healing thoughts your way, hon. Also sending some links that helped us when my BIL had a quintuple bypass last year.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
My Love,
Cheri
FCM, here’s some good vides coming both your and his way. I hope he comes through without any problems and I hope you are doing fine too (emotionally speaking).
Speaking as one who has surgery just last Sunday, I hope he makes a speedy recovery as I seem to be doing.
:: good vibes winging their way down I-75 ::
Take care, FCM
Lots of prayers, good thoughts, positive energy and kitty lovins being sent to you and your whole family from SoCal FCM.
Let us know if there is anything else we can do.
Hugs,
Ric and Kathy and our furbabies
FairyChatMom, I am so sorry to hear about your FIL. I know worried and helpless you must feel. I will keep you and your loved ones in my thoughts this weekend, until we hear good news from you.
On preview: what Swampbear said.
GOOD VIBESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS…
winging their way across the atlantic as we speak.
I didn’t have a chance to respond earlier.
My prayers will be for you and your family.
It is wonderful that you care so much for your father-in-law, and I’m sure your love means a great deal to him. I hope everything works out for the best.
Please give Fairychatdad and the PerfectChild warm hugs from me.
I’m glad we all know FCM well enough not to assume the thread title was a double entendre!

Prayers and hugs for you and your husband (and everyone). My dad had quad bypass at age 68, back in the dark ages (11 years ago) and he did great. It was his misfortune to die from pancreatic cancer a year ago, but the years he spent after the bypass were active and happy.
BTW, I am a home health nurse who sees post-op bypass patients every week. Overall, they do amazingly well and recover
quickly. Just make sure the discharge planner at the hospital lines up a visiting nurse agency for him, so someone can check on him for the first few weeks at home. The most common complications include bleeding (from the Coumadin, if his doctor prescribes it), constipation, a little depression, poor appetite (have to conquer this one in order to heal), incisional pain and some weakness. And the hardest thing is trying to get them to take frequent rests between activities, because they feel so great and tend to over-do it too quickly!
dantheman - I considered that when I wrote the title. I may be somewhat distraught, but, well, a dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste.
beckwall - my biggest worry, apart from the actual surgery, is that he won’t take it easy. After he had the tests and before the results came back, the Doctor told him to take it easy and no lifting. And yet he was out in the workshop messing with his woodworking. He’s ever-so-slightly stubborn - a trait that seems to have been passed to his firstborn…
Again, thank you all for the good wishes and comfort. You have no idea what it all means to me!
FCM make your FIL take care of himself. Again, if you need me, just holler. For all the grief I give you, you are one of my favoritest Dopers, and you know that. If I need to be there you know I will be. Good Doper prayers, thoughts, prayers and crossed fingers still going to:

Update:
Spouse and kid are somewhere in North Carolina right now, driving south. FIL’s surgery will be some time on Monday - we won’t know specifically when until Sunday night when the schedule is published. We’ll be driving over there Sunday morning, and again on Monday in time for his surgery. I don’t know when I’ll get back on line, but I hope to be posting that all is well…
Special thanks to those who sent emails and e-cards! It really brightened my day! This thread has really been a help to me!
