I need special paint... or a filter...

      • I need to make a translucent filter that is violet in the center and changes to green gradually towards the circumference. I need it in 4" diameter and it has to be imaged through–so brushed-on paints are not suitable, I doubt that I would be able to get them applied evenly enough.
  • Is there a photo filter sold that is anything close to this? I have seen the wratten color filters, and that there are some combination-types.
  • If I make it myself, I need spray paint that can hold onto polycarbonate. I have found paints made by Tamiya for polycarbonate radio-control car bodies online, but don’t know what other paints are really translucent.
  • Or I could do it the totally-lazy way: print it up in a PDF and have a local print shop print me a transparency of it. About how much would this cost for one 5 x 5 inch image? Can they do it right away or not?

This is how I would do it. Most places that do printing like Kinko’s or Staples can do it in-house in about five minutes–anyplace that has a color laser printer can do it. Probably won’t cost more than a couple bucks for single print. It’ll have to be 8 1/2 x 11, and you’ll have to trim to size or you can have them do it. If you have PSP or PhotoShop, you can do the image in just a few minutes with the gradient fill tool. I can do one for you and wrap it in a PDF if you like, if you don’t have those programs.
