My friend needs background checks done for tutors she intends to hire.
Anyone familiar with an online service that does decent checks at a reasonable price?
The first time she tried to use an online site, she was told that they can’t help home-based businesses, which is what she has.
If she’s hiring tutors, she could go with credentialed teachers, as they are already pre-screened, depending on the state.
For instance, here in California, in order to get a teaching job, you have to be fingerprinted by the county, your prints run at state and federal level, and whichever district hires you will do a full background check for criminal records. After that, if a teacher is arrested for anything, their school district is immediately informed. All your friend would have to do is ask for a recent paystub or, in California, a Certificate of Clearance.
If your friend isn’t willing to pay for real teachers, then that heavily limits what she can check out. Though, like any business, she can ask for (and call) references.
I don’t think it’s a matter of paying for real teachers or not.
She’s got clients in grad school, and that calls for college, not high school, faculty in some cases.
Can you explain how non-teachers are heavily limited as to what she can check out?
A quick search online can give results. I was going to hire a contractor to do some remodeling work. Out of curiosity I searched the guy’s first/last name and found something. My earlier search of his company name was fine, but I found disturbing stuff online using his name.
When he stopped by and asked why I wasn’t hiring him I told him what I had stumbled across and he shut up left.
