I need to find scotch eggs in Boston

Anyone know where to do that? An unreasonable amount of time Googling and reading menus has produced only a few results in far northern reaches and one catering place in Cambridge. These are less than convenient. There’s got to be some bar or restaurant that has scotch eggs around here! I’m not optimistic about an answer in this thread, but it seemed worth a shot.

Otherwise, feel free to discuss scotch eggs. I am announcing my position in favor of them.

I know where to get them in St. Louis, but I suspect that is less convenient than Cambridge.

The wife is from Boston, and she’d never encountered them before moving to Southern California. Looks bleak, dude.
You could always just make your own. If you have a deep fryer it’s very easy.

I’ve lived in the Boston area for more than 20 years and I’ve never had one. I had to look up what they are.

I am not even familiar with any places that feature British food generally. There must be a couple but I can’t think of any.

I know where you can get Scotch Ale though.

It’s a sausage meatball with a hardboiled egg in the middle… how hard can it be? Make your own, Dude. If you can’t deepfry it, bake it.

Speaking of alternative cooking methods. they might be suited to those George Foreman or Ronco Rotisserie Grills. I can imagine if you prepare your favorite Scotch Egg Recipe and omit the egg wash and breading, and instead wrap them in Cawl Fat and/or Bacon, they would be delicious skewered and slow turned. Be sure to refrigerate the scotch eggs before skewering in order to get a good thread, the bacon or cawl fat is optional. Might be nice to use your favorite basting sauce and a flavorful spice rub or paste if you try them this way.

I didn’t mention my motives, but this is more about something to enjoy during an evening out on the town with friends than about eating one myself. Scotch Egg Party at my house probably won’t be a big hit. That’s not to say I won’t try to make them myself anyway, of course, especially if nobody sells them. (Thanks for the cooking advice!)

Scotch Eggs are pub fare, and there are certainly some pubs in Boston, so I would suggest either calling up some pubs, or better yet do a pub crawl until you find one that will make some for you.

I gots ya, but ya have a good chance- there’s got to be more Publicans in Boston than anywhere in the nation.

Ummm… I also misspoke, miswrit…something.
It should be Caul Fat, not Cawl Fat.

But I’m thinking that the traditional Hearty Welsh Soup called “Cawl” would be a perfect starter for a Thanksgiving Dinner this year for some folks. Something delicious and new for the table…

Can you say-- "ROAD TRIP!"?

Sorry, that’s all I got.

The geomatria of this, however… is that you might have to manually turn the Scotch Eggs 90 degrees on the skewer halfway through to ensure an even browning on the leeward side. I am imagining the double skewer loaded with perhaps 8 to a dozen eggs. 4X4 or 6X6… maybe a simple worchestershire sauce, butter, molllases, and vinegar baste, to stay traditional. That’s just me, you might like something with xhipotle, even.

Seems like as good a road trip excuse as any. I was introduced to scotch eggs in Madison, Wisconsin (Brocach, on the Capitol Square, if anyone’s curious). That will have to be a stop on the trip, but maybe I won’t tell all my friends there the real reason I’m passing through.
