Good luck Porcupine and UncleBeer
porcupine you will be in my thoughts. Call or e-mail if you need anything, k?
Aw, man, porc, what a mess You know you’re going to be fine, but look me up if you need to talk, eh?
*hugs to you, porcupine-I’ll send good thoughts your way
My thoughts are with you porcp
Thanks for all the good thoughts, everyone - it’s much appreciated.
Tansu, I had no migraine symptoms at all with this “attack” - no pain, no sensitivity to light sound and smells, no nausea. As a matter of fact, I went two and half weeks with no migraine, which is almost a record for me.
Coldie, those are good words. I’m always one to imagine the worst, and I’m almost always wrong.
Zoe, no word yet. The MRI/MRA isn’t actually til this coming Monday (the 28th), so I have another few days to obsess and worry. I’m glad the nurse at your doctor’s office was on the ball when you had your problem.
Gingy, I think that instead of Pay-to-Post, there’s gonna be a Pay-to-Borrow-a-Mod. For a modest fee that will be used to support the boards, you get to borrow a mod to do whatever mundane errands you like, including grocery shopping, designated driver service, and dog-walking.
Eva, unfortunately UncleBeer can’t be sleep-deprived since he’s supposed to drive. But since he tends to fall asleep right after anyway….
LifeOnWry, I remember that migraine thread. Your hub is the one with cluster headaches, right? Luckily my migraines have gotten better – the Topamax is definitely helping there. Hope yours are doing as well.
Tibs, I’ll probably be pretty wonky at Gundy’s while we’re partaking of Chili Crack – that’s the day of the EEG. But that’s ok – it means I’ll be a cheap drunk.
Even if things do come out “the worst” it will be manageable. It’ll probably just means getting off the hormonal birth control, getting on some blood thinners, and having a little more urgent excuse to lose the last 8 of those 10 lbs I gained last year, along with an extra 10 for good measure, and start the weight lifting and other exercise that I gave up earlier in the year because I was so sick with almost daily migraines (hence the new medication). It’s just scary having to think about this kind of thing at 38, not 68.
Yer 38? At the risk of sounding predictable: you don’t look a day over 30. At least, not when we met in LA a little over a year ago!
Anyways, good luck tomorrow!
I look a lot older now - must be from dating UncleBeer.
Well, I can see how that would take its toll. You’re a brave woman.
I dunno what you had in mind for becoming sleep-deprived…myself, I was talking about going out dancing or something.
I hope you don’t have to go on blood thinners; they are really icky. I had to do it myself, and I was even younger than you (28), after a post-surgical blood clot. The side effects may outweigh the potential benefits. Plus it’s really difficult to get the dosage stabilized; for a while, they were drawing blood every couple of days. Pretty much anything can make the dosage vary: activity level, diet, hormones…I really hope you don’t have to do that. Maybe there’s some other less icky explanation.
Anyway, good luck again, and hopefully it’ll turn out to have been some kind of wacky isolated incident.
Good luck porcupine! My mom had migraines most of her life, and actually had a seizure or two, and what were possibly TIAs later in life. But they got her slightly abnormal brain activity under control with meds, and she managed well after that.
She did die of colon cancer about 6 years ago, though, unrelated to the rest of the stuff.
And she was much older than you! Very best of luck!
Hope you get all better real soon. You young kids and your problems, sheesh. Lots of good thoughts on your way.
Hi porcupine,
Good luck with your tests. I’m a migraineur too and have been for over 30 years. I don’t know what meds you are taking, but for me the preventatives I’ve tried: Topamax, Amitriptyline, Inderal, etc. all goofed up my cognitive ability to some degree - I forget words, repeat myself (could be senility, I guess) and have virtually no short term memory.
You’re probably sick and tired of reading about your headaches but if you’re not, I have found a lot of good information here about meds, side effects, tests and so on. A search for TIAs brought up several pages worth of posts. I wish you the very best, porcupine and I’m glad that you will, at the very least, be getting some answers.
Yipes. Sounds scary, but I’m betting all will be well. Good luck, good vibes, and keep us updated.
porcupine (and Uncle Beer) - you’re in my thoughts and prayers!!! Big Hugs!!!
By the way - you know I live right near you (most likely right around the corner - literally) - if there’s ANYTHING YOU NEED - (email me at work and I’ll give you my phone number) - you can call me anytime. I mean it - call and I’ll come a-runnin.
Best of luck, and we’ll all be thinkin of you.
Hang in there, porcupine.
The only reason you need your head examined, to me, is the whole “dating Uncle Beer” thing. Ow! Hey, stop hitting me! Ow!
Please take care of yourself, Barb. Keep us posted. You know where to find us if you need us!
Yeah, he did that to me, too. I’ve lost a lot of hair, and my beard is graying now.
sigh
(poster thinks about making some “sucked the life right out of me” comment, notes UncaBeer’s moderator status, and thinks better of it…)
I’m leaving work in about a half hour to go home, walk the dawg, then go to the hospital for the test. I’m hoping that the contrasting will show up good enough that they won’t have to stick dye in me. It should take about 45 minutes. Luckily I don’t have a migraine today - having an MRI during a migraine would be very very miserable.
Thanks again for all the good wishes.
sending good thoughts your way…hope it goes smoothly.
I said you’d be in my thoughts tonight. Here’s hoping for the best.
