G-d is used by those who consider the word holy and don’t want to use it on say paper which will eventually get thrown in the trash. So it isn’t really dancing around anything.
I always loved how it both worked for people who don’t believe in God and don’t want to bring him up, and for people who have a problem using “God’s name in vein.” I mean, the latter reminds me of things my sister used to say, like “O my Buddha” instead of “O my God.” (It comes from a weird joke about how no one calls for Buddha when the think they’re about to die. Weird because they apparently don’t know that Buddhists can believe in God(s).)

Of course not, but I do personally know that Cecil doesn’t shy from saying the word, “God”, whether as an exclamation when we’ve been chased by authorities, or as a phrase of pleasure in the throws of swinging party from back in the day…but those were days a long time ago.
No. There was something very similar already floating around the the web. It may have started here with that typo but it didn’t start here overall. Way back when, I pointed it out to the person who “originated” it and she threw a righteous fit. Now that I think about it, she may have came up with it independently but in any event, Og Smash, predates the SDMB.
