It turns out that the non-shitfaced selfish assholes are in the minority. The bastards have won, but that doesn’t mean they are right. Some days you don’t fight to win, or even tie-You fight against becoming yet another shitfaced selfish asshole.
Even after having served in the presidency, he STILL doesn’t understand that the U.S. government is the ultimate group project.
If I wasn’t so lazy I’d find the posts where you reacted to Biden dropping out and your instant and deep support for Harris was made crystal clear.
I said that if Biden dropped out, Trump would win.
Looks like I was right. That’s what I get for having faith. Fuck me too, apparently.
Yikes.
I’m sorry for you.
You might be safer staying there, tho’.
I hate to say it but hiding in plain sight might be best for a bunch of us.
Fuck. Well that’s what this thread calls for, doesn’t it?
I’m going to be optimistic. While I’m disappointed in the United States in the short term, I’m confident in the long term. Why? The United States is bigger than any one President, and any one President’s ideals. That is baked into its history. The US will continue, long past this hiccup.
America stands for democracy, for freedom, for liberty. The moment Trump goes against any one of those, he’s going to be in trouble, no matter how he couches it.
America is greater than Trump. He doesn’t like that idea, but the fact remains that the United States is 248 years old, traditions have set in, and he’s not going to destroy everything on Day One, just to satisfy his ego. He can try, but real Americans—those who actually love their country, not Trump—will not let him.
The idea of America is stronger than the idea of Trump. One posits a free and fair elections country; the other wants fascism. I think that America would rather be free and fair.
What makes you think he served while he was in office?
Fuck. Just fuck. I am so sorry for all of you, you seriously don’t deserve what that orange shitgibbon is going to do to your country.
Thank you, dear northern neighbor.
Couldn’t have been said better.
America has had bad times. Many times. We overcame.
I’m disappointed, dismayed, dumbfounded and dreading these next years. But I still have an ingrained feeling of being an American. The luckiness of that. People still want to come here. We still have lots to offer.
America is a big place, one man can’t tear it all down.
She’s sad tonight but she’ll bounce back.
We just tried to stop him.
And yet more than half the voters just said “Fascism USA!”
Sure. And let’s see how well that works out for them.
“Where’s my Mexican gardiner?”
“Rounded up and sent back.”
“Where’s my tax break?”
“You’re not a multi-gozillionaire.”
“Where’s my abortion rights?”
“What abortion rights?”
“My kids are starving.”
“Tough, you shouldn’t have had them.”
I have faith in America. I believe that it can be, that it is, a model for a lot of people. That it is larger than one man. That it can come through the next four years with its values intact, with its head held high, and say, “Yeah, we’re better than him.” That it will once again take its place upon the world stage as somebody to be listened to and respected, and not a country to be laughed at, as Trump was laughed at, at the UN.
I’m tempted to say, “I’d also like a pony,” but I won’t. That’s a pie-in-the-sky idea, but the idea of America isn’t. It’s a rock-solid, copper-bottomed, idea that has lasted for over two centuries. It’s gonna take a lot to dismantle it, and four years ain’t gonna be enough for one man to do it.
I agree with all of it except this bit. If Harris had had a full campaign, then maybe….
But this isn’t a fight we always win. It’s a fight we fight.
It’s funny and kinda sad that I knew the election was over when I was reading the omnibus thread and @Smapti was in full Baghdad Bob mode telling us how everything was fine. You can set your watch by him - he’ll always take the wrong prediction and go with it with 100% certainty and religious zeal.
Is it larger than the 60 million pieces of garbage that continue to support him despite no rational or moral reason to do so?
There’s no greater ideal with this country. This is not some sort of blight that hit us beyond our control. We deliberately chose this – whether directly or by indifference - and there’s no redeeming quality in that. There’s no underlying ideals or hidden value or any of that shit, the whole thing is just rotten to the core.
America is a horrible fucking place full of horrible fucking people who just elected an insane fascist game show host to be president. I cannot listen to a bunch of white boomers spew their indoctrinated bullshit about how America is special.
How can you wake up this morning and still not see this country for what it is?
No. I didn’t choose this. None of the people I know who worked hard for her chose this. His winning is not a sin of America in total, any more than every German was a Nazi. I reject that idea.
Are the people responsible horrible? Yes. Did a lot of people get complacent and think it couldn’t happen here? Yes. But that’s not everyone and it’s lazy and defeatist to say so.
So I was four years early?
Well, fuck me too! So more than half of people are assholes, stupid, or both, and the bad news is that it is not limited to the USA. Fuck!
The sooner America collapses, the better for humanity. It won’t be long.
I think Trump was always going to win this one. Biden was in no fit state to run the kind of energetic campaign needed to beat him.
Two-hundred years is only impressive to us. That’s nothing on the world stage, in world history. Rock-solid? Hell, we had a massive civil war less than 100 years into things, and people still fly that flag. I feel like the last 20-30 years have put the lie to being, “rock solid” as well. Citizen’s United, Jan 6th’s come and gone and the guy who tried to overthrow the government is not only free, but now apparently elected as president again! McConnell preventing SC justices from being appointed, and more. . .
I know this is the pit, and maybe this isn’t in the spirit of things, but I don’t mean the following in a mean fashion.
I feel like your quoting a fairy tale told to children, the same jingoistic BS they’ve fed us since I was little. The country has flaws. It took awhile, but we have an entire political party who found them and have the will to exploit them, and create their own exploits. The way things were going, if Trump didn’t do it, someone else would have. He’s just a mean, dumb narcissist who fumbled his way through the first term, but this time, they’ve prepared in case he was elected. They have plans.
We aren’t coming out the other side of another trump presidency the same. We’re fucked, and we’re gonna take a chunk of the world along for the ride, because we’re too big and powerful not to. I don’t know how bad things have to get before we see a semblance of improvement, but it still has a way to go.
I look at life kind of like a movie: I always want to see what’s next. For the first time in my life, I genuinely don’t want to see what the future will be with Trump as president, and whoever follows him. It’s not a shining city on a hill.
Yeah, I just finished watching “Idiocracy.” Little did I know the first time I saw it that it was a documentary.
