I pit America

I don’t know, I think that last one could make a comeback! It’s a scrappy underdog!

D.L. Hughley: ‘Obama Was What We Aspire To Be, Trump Is Who We Are’
“We have to accept who we are in order to evolve,” the actor said.

Yes. I know. Not each and every one of us, but the sentiment, once again, resonates with me.

One element I think constitutes a large chunk of “American Exceptionalism” is the extent to which we profit from misery – perverse incentives. Just like Trump, it’s truly another broad based “But what if we … didn’t” philosophy, where norms and decency are sacrificed at the altar of Our Precious GDP.

I didn’t watch last eve. I asked Alexa first thing this morning.

When was the last time I cried? Then.

Because it wasn’t even close – not in the popular vote, not in the EC results.

If it isn’t actually you, then no amount of acceptance will allow “you” to evolve. People are individuals. Only illiberal people don’t believe that.

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

Well, the USA has told us loud and clear that they are a proudly racist, sexist, bigoted, selfish culture. There is something deeply rotten in the values and morals that directs a significant number of the population.

I’m incredibly disappointed in them. It shouldn’t have taken a “longer campaign” or “more getting a message out” to avoid voting for a fascist dictator. It’s never the right decision to vote for the fascist dictator even if the other person didn’t run enough ads in your neighborhood.

Fuck. I’m sorry for those who will suffer. I hope people stand together and fight back, and continue to defend the rights of all.

I don’t believe there is a god, so tragically there will be no judging… unless he goes too far and there is a tribunal at Nuremberg.

TL;DR With Trump supporters, it’s what they DON’T know that leads them to BE Trump supporters.

Despite the fact that the liberal media probably never held a Democrat administration to account the way they should have (at least not in a few decades), they were substantially harder on, and more suspicious of, Democrat Presidents than the conservative (ie, “State”) media has EVER been of a Republican President.

There was never a ‘lane’ for a Democrat administration to stick to where they knew they could just cruise, free from material challenges from the Fourth Estate.

I tend to consume much more RW media during a D presidency and much more LW media during an R presidency to avoid hearing nothing but the party line.

And the difference in how each covers ‘their’ President is dramatic.

It’s also relatively unprecedented.

The advent, and rise, of conservative media didn’t “give an outlet” to an ideology that hadn’t been covered before. It gave a free pass that was rife for manipulation.

And manipulation is exactly what we got.

Did it push LW media farther to the left in the process. I think so. But there’s still absolutely no equivalence in magnitude.

So pretty much everybody lost, forcing a few rather discriminating consumers to work very hard to find outlets who consistently hew close to the center.

[mmm rubs his eyes, shakes his head, splashes water on his face, rubs his eyes harder, reads this again]

mmm

Thank you for calling that out. Cannot fucking stand that movie.

I realised Trump was probably going to win a couple days ago, when I read this BBC article and the comment by the first person interviewed (my bold):

Felicity voted for Trump in 2020 but has yet to decide if she’ll back the former president a second time.

I have no freaking clue man. It’s so hard. When I voted for Trump, it came down to who would I trust with my kid alone and it wasn’t [President Joe] Biden.

Said it all for me, really, and I knew y’all were royally fucked. And us all with you.

I don’t think that Harris could have done anything better or different to have gotten a different result. The bottom line is we now know the proportions of the population who are evil and who are grossly ignorant, short-sighted, and selfish.

For those of you who voted for Harris, you have my sincere thanks and sympathy, from up here in Canada.

I fear that your opponents have started a descent into a new dark age and its unimaginable consequences for the indefinite future for the entire world.

Been born a white man.

Yes, we’re well aware that the right take particular joy in the suffering of others.

“Ha ha, your candidate lost and now millions of people are going to be rounded up and put in camps! Sucks to be you! And them!”

Because you don’t like having your moral bankruptcy pointed out? That’s certainly understandable.

You don’t, though.

And if Biden hadn’t dropped out, Trump would have won by even more.

I look forward to your predictions on which direction the sun will rise from tomorrow.

It wouldn’t be. It would be – will be - bloody and horrible.

I sadly agree.

The metaphor I used with my wife is: your daughter comes home and she’s torn between two guys – Hitler, and the guy that doesn’t wash his hands after he pees.

So, for the first time in my life, my instinct tells me to start looking into moving to another country. Self-preservation has a strong pull.

Yet, while my wife and I have (maybe) the wherewithal to do so, I worry about those who do not. My family, and my friends, are diverse, racially, socio-economically, even in matters of religious affiliation. And not all of them can, or would, move away from here.

We are about to see America turn into a 100% bona fide Christian Nationalist state. Everyone who does not fit that mold is right and truly fucked.

My Muslim brother Haneef, who has the most infectious laugh and the world’s biggest heart… His three bi-racial children., My friend Joz, whose chosen pronouns are they/them… My mom and dad, who are in their 70s and therefore completely unable to do much of anything… My queer son…These are all real people, and people that I love and cherish and who are in real danger.

So, as much as it sucks for us all, or perhaps BECAUSE it sucks for us all, I will stay and fight.

I do not believe in a god, per se, so I will say this; My hope is that there is a reckoning for those who have hatred and greed at the top of their amoral codes that I get to see here on Earth. I just hope Day One Dick-Tater doesn’t use FaceBook as his starting place for rounding up us “enemies from within.”

Cite that Hitler always washed his hands?

Oh yeah, the sooner it’s over, the better. Again: for the rest of the world, not us.

But we’re looking at a US/Russian axis that is a threat to the entire planet.

We are the fascists, and we are the people who fight the fascists. Bull Connor was every bit the American that Martin Luther King Jr. was. Our country contains multitudes.

Last night the fascists won. Today we’re lying on the floor bleeding and dispirited. But when we can pick ourselves up from the floor, the same work will face us.

I hate it so much.

The work doesn’t care about my hate.

I’m your huckleberry:

Hitler seemed obsessed with the idea of infection. The Nazi leader was, by most accounts, a germaphobe who avoided personal contact and bathedincessantly. He was repelled by sex, horrified by venereal disease. He referred to himself as an Einsiedler – a hermit. He extolled the virtues of celibacy and claimed prostitution was for inferior races, though some have proposed Hitler himself contracted syphilis from a Jewish prostitute in Vienna in 1908.

This, and thank you for posting it.

It took five years and millions of dead to get to that tribunal, though.
