I pit Australian weather and my plumber! (lame)

In Brisbane today it was 41 degrees celsius (106 fahrenheit) with almost 90% humidity - and I have no air conditioning! I spent the whole day dripping with sweat and when I go to take a cold shower, almost no water pressure!! Of course, that didn’t stop the idiot plumber who claims to have fixed it try to charge me anyway!! #@()*#)(*#!!

If you could please spare about 40F degrees, and mail it overnight to the midwest, that would be great!

That heatwave up there is looking horrid, down here we have had the occasional monster day but they haven’t been strung together like the hell you are all going through.

May I suggest wet towels to the back of the neck and having the plumber disembowelled.

I’m in brissie too. I had to catch the public transport system… the train lines are buckling, so the trains have to slow down and I had to sit at roma street for ages… then there was the f***ing sweltering walk home. But it’s all downhill in a couple of hours.

Another Brisbanite here. Yup, it was bloody HOT today. I have air conditioning in the bedrooms but haven’t used them. They’re useful at night for sleep, and other activities. I can hardly spend all weekend in the bedroom, though - as much as that appeals.

Evidently, the authorities will autopsy deaths that occurred over this weekend to determine which, if any, have been caused by the 100+ (F) temperatures. Not sure what purpose is served by that. Maybe some authoritarian anal thing?

maybe they’re planning on suing god.

It’s so hot that the plastic picture hooks we have are melting and breaking and our pictures are falling off the walls! Glass everywhere.

Brisbane: Beautiful one day, destroying picture frames the next.
I’ve only lived here a week… I wish I was back in my own town.

It’s really really hot. Too hot. the kind of hot that makes me want to go back to NZ. Everything is hot to the touch, the pool is ridiculously warm. I’m just sitting here sweating and complaining.

Do we really believe it will be cooler tomorrow? It’s got to break soon.

I’m pretty sure, that on the news on friday night, it was 41 sat and sun, then dropped back down to normally hot temperatures. It is horrible… I got in a car today that had been sitting in straight sun for 6 hours, and it was black! It was almost dangerously hot, all the metal was close to burning temperature.

Some schools told their kids not to come on Friday, yet gymnastics classes were still on!

(on phone)
Them: hello!
Me: I’m just ringing in the hopes that gymnastics has been cancelled.
Them: No, it’s still on. You know you don’t have to come if you don’t want to!
Me: I’m the coach.
Them: Oh.

Dammit all! The kids are too hot to sit on their bums and learn, yet they are expected to be able to come to the sweltering gym and do pushups!

PLUS FREE ADDITIONAL RANT!!!
I burnt my hands on the steering wheel yesterday. AAAAHHHH!!!

Your hands are made of sugar?

A candle in my kitchen just flowed over the edge of the shelf and onto the floor. Splat.

On the positive side there is a huge storm brewing out there and I’m hoping and praying it is going to hit and not just go round us. I’m also praying for no fucking power cuts because we’ve had enough of those out this way already. I think the combo of storm, power cut and no a/c would send me doolally.

No, but I am burnt! Actually, it wasn’t bad, they feel fine today, if a bit red.

Uh, that was in reply to Desmostylus.

On the upside, it looks like things will be cooling down for you later this week.

I know posting email quips is frowned on even in the pit. However my gf in Queensland visited Brisbane on the weekend and posted me this today. It seemed relevent.

Where I am it climbed to a stunning 17 degrees today. (That’s 62 for those of you who don’t speak metric.)

Never mind 41C (106F), it was well over 43C (110F)in the shade out on my back verandah. Other interesting temperatures:

  • cold water from the tap - 33C (91F)

  • BBQ hot plate sitting in sun - 63C (145F)

  • Princhester’s living room with air conditioning running full blast 34C (93F)

Yeah, that 41 is an average. It was 44 at the shops down the road yesterday.

I’m house-sitting for some friends that went back to America for a month. So far we’ve had the worst storms on record followed by the hottest temperatures on record!

Oh god, stop describing that wonderful heat. I don’t think I’m going to make it through another New England winter. Give me 100+, please!
