Sure, but that position isn’t inherent to Zionism. Unlike anti-Zionism, which is a position that if carried out would lead to ethnic cleansing.
Anti-Zionism is inherently odious.

Your position on this is well established. And has zero to do with whether a specific Green Party member endorsing both “anti-Zionism” and terrorism and Jew hate, is a “speed bump” …
On this we may both agree - it doesn’t change your assessment of “anti-Zionism” and it doesn’t change mine, or likely anyone else’s assessment in this thread or maybe anywhere.
Says you… but Smotrich and Ben-Gvir may disagree. Similarly, many anti-Zionists feel very differently about what it means to be anti-Zionist.
A comedian whose name I don’t recall quipped…
“Saying you’re an Anti-Zionist is now the socially acceptable amount you’re aloud to hate Jews.”
Not wrong.
The Anti Zionist movement has been dead since 1979 when Egypt and Israel reached an agreement. It can’t hit “speed bumps” when it isn’t going anywhere, and there is no amount of bloviating by Western useful idiots that will accomplish the Anti Zionist goal of getting rid of Israel.
This wasn’t a speed bump; it was a moment when the mask slipped. Although this particular mask slip reminds me a bit of the meme where a man in a Hitler mask takes off their mask to reveal that it was really Hitler all along.
For some, I’m sure he’s not wrong. Others believe Zionism means Smotrich/Ben-Gvir Zionism (or Netanyahu Zionism), and thus requires, or allows, ethnic cleansing and/or genocide… in that sense, I’m anti-Zionist, as I imagine you and every other decent person is.
Just give it time and they’ll drop the euphemism. Did you see that people tried to cancel Lady Gaga for giving birth in a “Zionist” hospital?
Well, except for the spelling of “allowed”. And, as previously noted, except for the fact that for very many individuals, including many Jewish ones, anti-Zionism is not actually about hating Jews.
Whereas in certain areas, saying you’re pro-Zionist is the socially acceptable amount you’re allowed to like Jews.
You imagine correctly.
But asking rhetorically for a friend…
How many times is the right number of times that someone has to condemn the fascist and fascist-enabling elements of the current Israeli government to finally be accepted as a “decent person” in polite society?
I do not feel the inclination to switch labels to fit in with the mood of times. You see, I can both condemn settlers and other ethno-fascists and still have both feet planted firmly in the camp of Zionists who believe Israel, as a state, has a right to exist. Color me Zionist-classic, I guess.
How do we feel these days about spelling nazis? ![]()
We thank them for their service. ![]()
I don’t demand any sort of ritual condemnation. I’m just posting my thoughts.
And mocking Babs, of course…
That seems like a very easy position for anyone who is not a giant piece of shit to take. Which explains why “anti-Zionists” struggle with it so much.

We feel it should have a capital N.
See? Not as funny the second time.
But you were responding to my post…
FWIW, It doesn’t seem like Babale disagrees with us re: the current Israeli administration. Have you asked him directly?
I’ve made myself pretty damn clear regarding the current administration. Netanyahu is a criminal who belongs his jail; his attempts to “reform” the Judicial Branch are a naked power grab that if successful could destroy Democracy in Israel; and the rifts he has created and exploited in Israeli society are an enormous threat and directly contributed to the lack of readiness on Oct 7. If Netanyahu had one gram of decency, he would have resigned over his failure. But of course, he lacks that sort of decency entirely.
U.K. Green Party leader 's “assurances” to Jews living in his district in wake of the party’s “Zionism is racism” resolution don’t go over well.
