I pit Castro

I think he’s a coward, trying to excuse himself and say he’s not a monster, he’s just addicted to pornography.

No sale. Plenty of people view pornography. They don’t kidnap and rape people. This is the equivalent of saying well, I’m addicted to coca-cola, so I shit on puppies. It’s not my fault, it’s society. I am addicted to soap operas, so I eat babies.

To this creep, I’d say-

You’re a sociopath who does not care about the feelings of other people. You don’t care if they suffer, in fact, you enjoy it. You had a decade of inflicting a nightmare on others. It’s far, far worse than the prison you’re going to. You’re so screwed up as a human being, that we can’t even turn your own behavior back on you. We can’t torture you the way you tortured others. We would either humanely euthanize you or lock you away in a clean prison cell big enough for you to move around comfortably in, where you get proper meals and medical treatment. No matter how terrible you are, we can’t even treat you as poorly as you treated others.

You are indeed a sick, broken individual. You’re also a coward for trying to excuse yourself. There is no fixing you, and there is no redeeming you. We don’t seriously believe you’ll contemplate what you’ve done and repent and beg forgiveness. We don’t think that you’ll suffer any amount equal to the suffering you’ve put onto others. We don’t care if you feel remorse, we don’t care if you wish to delude yourself into thinking you’re not a bad person.

Personally, I feel you’re a waste of food and medical care. I don’t think you deserve our charity. I think you are garbage, in the fullest sense of the word. And if it were up to me, that’s all you’d have to eat until the day you die. I don’t think you deserve the dignity of a mattress to sleep on, when we have homeless people who don’t enjoy as much comfort. Nor do I think you should have the comfort of a roof over your head, or air conditioning, or heating in the winter. You don’t deserve any of these things, when we have law-abiding people down on their luck who don’t enjoy these basic necessities. You’re a drain on our society, using our resources, and you deserve nothing. You should be chained to a concrete slab, out in the elements, and be given garbage to eat, and no medical attention, until you pass away. That’s as much as you deserve. You deserve to be forgotten, disowned by humanity. Tossing you in a pile of trash heading for the incinerator would be too good for something like you. And yet, even though that’s exactly what you deserve, that’s the level of respect you’re worth, to do this to you would turn us into you. And we will never be as broken as you are.

I don’t care if you enjoy the comforts of prison, or think your punishment is unjust. I want your victims to know you’ll never hurt anyone ever again, you’ll never experience true freedom again, and that you will die someday, forgotten and unloved. When you return to the dust and ash from whence you came, your ability to suffer, and cause others to suffer, will die with you. That’s the only cure. In the meanwhile, you’ll get the benefit of being treated like a prisoner, which is more than you deserve, but the bare minimum our society allows.

Shame and emptiness will be your only companions, until you rot away. And that’s not even a punishment we inflict on you, it is the result of your own actions. Any shame you feel is because your brain is telling you to feel it. Emptiness is because you’ve treated others so miserably that no one wants to be around you. Truly, the worst punishment you’ll receive is the one you give yourself. And that is how justice will be served. Your prison cell will be one of stone and metal, but your real prison cell will be whatever hell exists within your mind, the shame, and the emptiness, all self-inflicted. Your release from prison will be when your mind decides you’ve suffered enough, and allows you to die.

That’s more than we can do to you, and it is what you deserve. I can live with that.

Yes, except that Castro is a psychopath, and so your speech would have no affect on him. If he were a normal person, hearing your speech after doing those horrible things, he would be ashamed. But if he were a normal person he wouldn’t have done those things in the first place.

Attempting to shame or punish this person won’t work. Well, you might be able to get him to say certain words or phrases back to you, but he won’t mean them, because he’s a psychopath. He’d just be pretending, to get you to shut up or stop torturing him.

That’s the thing. I would think that sociopaths would be able to understand what kind of statements would come across as absurd. I think they (some of them, anyway) are supposed to be excellent at picking up on social norms, cues, etc.
Even so, the psycological expert that evaluated Castro said he suffered from no mental illnesses. I think that was the phrase he used, anyway.

If you listen to the full speech it gets worse, he feels compelled to point out that none of the women were virgins and he claims that they INSTIGATED some of the sexual encounters.

Ahhh, so that explains it then: they were just wicked sirens. Poor guy. :frowning:

Yeah, pitting Castro is a relatively uncontroversial move. But, fuck it, after listening to his spiel in court, he’s deserving of whatever piling on is coming his way.

It seems there is no such thing as a deterrent for psychopaths. The rest of us just have to hang out while they roam about, doing what they do until they get caught. Then we get to feed and house them until they die.

In this case, as with so many others, I think of how a child just vanishes. One day they are there with you, living their lives, the next, they are gone. These young women and their loved ones had a better outcome than many, as they are still alive. I simply cannot fathom one of my children going missing. I cannot begin to wrap my head around what this has been like for these victims and their families all these years. Then to hear him talk of consensual sex, that he’s not violent, that one of the victims bore his “love child”. It’s just too much. It’s like even in his last words to the court, he was mocking everyone.

I may be wrong for wishing him pain. It may serve no purpose. Part of me still wishes it though.

Was I reading correctly that he was actually friends with the family of one of the missing women, and even attended vigils in her honor? It’s un-fucking-real how horrible this story gets.

I couldn’t care less if torturing him does any good or if that’s justice. I don’t care if it makes us a worse society or if he doesn’t learn anything from it. As for caring for his victims, I can do that while I hope he gets beaten bloody every single day. I’m a very liberal chick and usually don’t wish ill on anyone, even those that deserve it, but imprisoning multiple girls, beating them, terrorizing them, raping them for over a decade, all the while excusing his behavior to the point he blames them is enough to make me feel differently about him. If that makes me a bad person, slap the label on me and call me Shirley. I’ll be the bad person proudly.

Fucker deserves to have his genitals gnawed on by rats, set on fire and then nailed to the fucking back of a truck while it speeds away.

So see, there’s no reason to ever stop torturing him. Ever.

So who do we get to torture him? An official government torturer?

His son was interviewed on the Today Show this week and seems a decent sort. I hope that he will have a relationship with his half-sister who was conceived through rape in order to show her that just because she had a monster for a biological father doesn’t mean she has to become one.

All this talk about torture and such is par for the course, but its really sickening.

This guy is a monster and he should be locked away from society forever. His attempts at blaming society/addiction are awful and only serve to remind us what a terribly broken brain this guy has. I wouldn’t even be opposed to the death penalty or lobotomy in cases like this, if it could be guaranteed that no innocent person would ever undergo those sorts of punishments.

But graphically and disturbingly painting a picture of exactly how you want someone to be tortured alive is, quite frankly, awful. I think we should strive for better.

Then NPR will call it “harsh incarceration”

Wish him pain or not wish him pain, I have no objection to the thousand-year sentence. Let him spend the rest of his life in prison and die there.

I heard on the radio Castro testified that there was “harmony” in his house. Well, I can believe that! If you have absolute power of life and death over everybody who lives with you, there won’t be much quarrelling! He also said much of the sex was “consensual.” I can believe that too – you lock a woman in a room with nothing to do for years, her turn in the rotation eventually becomes the only thing she has to look forward to to relieve the boredom. That doesn’t mean she would not rather be practically anywhere else on Earth.

You’re probably right, honestly. In a perfect world, I wouldn’t have those thoughts in reaction to someone committing atrocities against others. It disturbs me that this evokes such feelings in me. It disturbs me that people like this are walking around. It disturbs me that right this moment with certainty there are other houses of horror operating in Everytown, USA. The other recent story is the man who killed his stepson and left him for dead in a ditch, and had his 15 year old son help him do it. He had previously had the same son videotape him beating a dog to death while they both laughed about it. I mean what the fuck.

Yeah, I wish I could be a finer human being and not have his pain be the first reaction to this. Cases like this just fuck me up.

The thing that struck me most about the things he was saying is I have to imagine he believed they would serve to soften opinions against him. If he’d have just said what he did was very wrong and he deserved to never draw another breath outside of a prison I’d at least give him credit for that.

But to say there was “harmony” in his home and that the sex was consensual both exposed how sick he is and why it’s a waste of time and resources to try to “cure” him. If he’d have asked for help after the violence to his ex-wife ended their relationship then sympathy and compassion would have been called for. But after keeping three young ladies locked up for the better part of a decade the only reason we as a people don’t repay his deeds in kind is to prove we are better than he is.

Walls, bars, endless boredom and absolutely no hope of any freedom not brought by death. That is all he can look forward to.

Works for me.

A raffle would do it, I think. Raise a nice sum of money for the victims, even.

Now that’s genius. It looks win/win to me.

Inmates are sent to prison as punishment, not to be punished. Most state prison systems strongly discourage inmate on inmate violence these days. Some still happens, but I expect Castro will not get murdered in prison. While Dahmer may have bought it in my state system, we do have a lot of other notorious guys who have survived inside for decades.

And while it may be viscerally satisfying to imagine inflicting pain on the guilty, in real life it really, really fucks most people up when they inflict pain on non consenting individuals.

Justice will be served by isolating Castro from the public for the rest of his life.
