I pit cherries

Pitless drupes?

I don’t think so.

Grapes, bananas, and oranges are berries–they have seeds in the fruit. Cherries and peaches are drupes–they have fruit around the seeds. It’s harder for those to spontaneously mutate to seedless (and in bananas’ case, I think it’s just the sterile hybrids that do so). And they’d look really odd.

Moved to IMHO.

Moved to Cafe Society.

Oooh! Mod fight!

Moved to the Cherry Orchard.

Nanking cherries fit the bill for what needscoffee seeks flavor-wise. You have to grow your own, however, and they’re pretty small.

I think your problem was the pitter. I use a paperclip. Unfold it part way, hold the large end and use the small end to scoop out the pit. No muss no fuss. IIRC I got the tip from Julia or Martha.

Now that you mention it, I do believe that the mice that I saw also had some sort of ears. It’s been ten or fifteen years since I saw them.

I’ll keep an eye out for these.

Yep, good old Cherry, who was also a deity of music and song. Which brings us to—

The theme song for this thread is the awesome rocker “Cherry Bomb” by the Runaways. I was 16 when this came out, same age as the band. We literally grew up together, so to speak. The lead singer’s name is Cherie; that’s some coincidence. or is it? Check out Joan Jett at the beginning of her career—she really started out with a bang! Meanwhile, I’m trying not to think of a song from the same era, “Cherry Baby” by Starz. One of my friends back then was a strong advocate of progressive rock and got a letter published in the Cleveland music paper Scene denouncing Starz as an example of “trash bands.” Cherry oh no

Mustn’t leave out Merrill Bainbridge:

There’s a garden in room, it has apples sweet and ripe.
If you’d like to have a taste I’ll let you.
Cherries red as they could be, such amazing things to see.
Everything is in full bloom in the garden in my room.

Fun fact: Cherries were introduced to Italy, thence to the rest of Europe, by the famous Roman gastronome Lucullus (who was also a general, and encountered cherries while campaigning against Mithradates in Pontus, what is now northern Turkey).
