I pit Craigslist Cleveland furniture listings

WTF? I am frankly embarrassed for my city, trying to sell BS like that. Throw that nasty assed couch OUT.

Crazy. I’m getting rid of my sleeper sofa today – its arms are torn, it’s been clawed by cats, and it’s almost 20 years old, but it’s insanely comfortable and I adore it. Getting a nice-quality cherrywood futon instead.

Who knew I could just send the bugger to Cleveland. Except the attractive camel-colored uphoulstry might be too tasteful. :frowning:

Please don’t tell us about them.

I just took a look at our local Craigslist and you don’t have anything up there we haven’t got:

This one, mercifully, comes with a slipcover:

I think $800 is a bit much to ask for these:

New advertising slogan for the city: Cleveland, the secret plaid burial ground!

I live here in Cleveburg and sadly, there ain’t anything secret about it. :smack:

Of course, this is the city that thinks orange and brown look good together too.

Elmwood:

You mention that you’re in the Borscht belt in your location. I think you know the answer to your own question.
Lots of cool stuff and cool people in Northeast Ohio.
You just have to sort out what ISN’T from what is, is all.

Ouch. I feel like I’ve just watched the ugly sofa parade.

Boston brings the ugly too, although at least that particular monstrosity is free.

More examples…

Ugh.
Eep!
Honey, no.
Gracious, no.
“NO” in brocade.
“NO” in floral.

At least most of these are relatively cheap.

But hey!!! This looks kinda familiar! Maybe they bought it in Cleveland!

Upon further browsing, I had to add this “gorgeous” couch for which the seller wants $700!

And here’s the ugly couch jackpot! Apparently, you can buy them in lots!

I’ll just point out that the offerer is in Nashua. Anyway, it’s clear that Cleveland doesn’t have a monopoly on ugly furniture, though they do seem to have a commanding lead.

Nitpicky, nitpicky.

Does it count if it’s at least inside of 495?

That’s for sure. Let’s compare:

Boston: http://boston.craigslist.org/fur/135797010.html - “Sofa/chair/ottoman 360; table/2chairs 135 - $135”
Cleveland: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/fur/132667418.html = “CLASSY Arm Chair & Ottoman - $150”

Yup, so classy that it’s the equivalent of $150 per ass capacity, compared to $22.50 per ass for the faux-Southwestern collection in Boston.

OK, this one has me howling with laughter. What happened to that thing? How can they possibly hope to get $200 for it?

In both percentage and price. Sure, folks in Boston have expensive rel estate, but here the hot market is in recliners and love seats from the 1970s.

Probably because there’s more in the cushions than just “great memories.”

It’s the combination of the huge stained area over the collapsed side that really does it for me.

And I was mistaken, they want $249 for it. Firm. Dear lord.

Huh. I use craigslist all the time – mostly to rent out rooms and offload stuff I don’t want any more.

I just went trolling through the Vancouver used furniture listings looking for egregiously ugly stuff to laugh at. I’ve been entirely incurious until now.

It’s, uh… mostly good-looking stuff, and cheap. I am so upgrading my junk this year.

Thanks! (And sorry for rubbing salt in there.)

It seems like those living in untrendy cities like Cleveland and Detroit have poor taste and delusions of grandeur when it comes to their furniture and its perceived worth.

Detroit seems to have its fair share of overpriced junk, but Cleveland still rocks supreme in that area.

http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/135747953.html - Cheap, but still ugly, and “a couple of scratches from cats.”
http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/135698515.html - New, probably $30. Used: $60.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/135513319.html - “The print is a floral print…new this was $899”. For a futon, you got ripped off.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/135355941.html - 'must sell quickly"
http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/135356941.html - Overpriced used furniture and an overpriced … uhhh … duuuuuuuuuuuuuuude …
http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/133968680.html - “Has fabric protection.” Couldn’t tell; it looks like someone barfed all over it.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/fur/135209923.html - $1800 of ugly.

I assume the “firm” didn’t apply to the couch, looking at the picture.
