I pit fog lights

Wouldn’t that blind THEM?

What, like we’re deliberately blinding you? Fuck that noise. I drive several trucks, none of them lifted, but their driving lights are higher than yours. They’re factory aligned. I’ll be go to hell if I’m going to drive with my lights off and kill myself to protect your fucking sensibilities.

If it’s foggy, I turn my fog lights on to better see the fog line on the road - that’s what they’re there for. And they’re pointed down. If my fog lights are in your eyes, you’d better get out of my lane - you’re going to wrong way.

I’m just still trying to figure out how my fog lights are causing anybody problems. They’re six inches off the ground, and they’re not nearly as bright as my headlights. When I turn my brights on, the fog lights automatically turn themselves off (because, if you’re using your brights, it’s obviously not foggy). So, they’re less bright, smaller, and lower.

Methinks this pitting isn’t about fog lights at all. I drive an admittedly large car, but I don’t sit very high off the ground at all. If another vehicle’s lights are too bright to stare at, I simply look at the white line on the side of the road, and judge everything else with my peripheral. That’s no more dangerous than taking my eyes off the road to look in my rear or side view mirrors.

I read the title as “I pit dog fights,” and I thought, “duh!”

Fog lights–yeah, that one was a little more perplexing. I had to actually read the OP before I could agree with it.

To Cowgirl Jules and Santo Rugger: I dont’ think the OP is really griping about what you guys are doing, which is using them the way they’re intended to be used. The OP is bitching about people who abuse this. They buy the highest wattage they can find, and purposely mount them pointing slightly up instead of down. They are actually TRYING to make it more difficult for other drivers. I used to have several friends who did just this, and I called them on being jackasses, and I’ll stand by it. The two of you seem to be using them they way they’re intended to be used, which don’t bother other drivers, but give them added visibility when it’s foggy. For that I must say thank you. I just with every other jackhole out there used them the way they’re supposed to be used.

They’re not. Unless you have a vehicle that has lamps that are high enough to get into somebodys mirrors. If somebodys lights offend you that much, get out of your car and tell them. I never hesitate to get out of my ride and tell someone when their tail or brakelights are out. And that would be for their benefit. Fuck thier behind you. Captive customer and all.

There are different types. Some are like yours, that are obviously angled lower, but I’ve come across some (read: oncoming traffic) that are either angled up, or obviously brighter than the headlights.

Many drivers have turned off their headlights and just the fog—sorry, I mean driving lights for you nitpickers–and others use just their headlights (not daytime running lights) and not the driving lights.

I try to look away, and quite often, I hold my hand in front of my eyes to shield the light. That obviously isn’t safe. Sure, I have a choice…be blinded or shield my eyes. Oh, I suppose I could choose not to drive, but hell, you have to have those lights, right? I mean, like Cowgirl Jules implied, it’s my fault apparently for sitting so low, because no one is deliberately blinding me. Look, I know it’s not personal, as if truck buyers are saying, “Hehehehe…I’ll buy this truck with driving lights, and that’ll piss off that sanctimonious prick Prelude to Fascination!” I’m saying people who drive vehicles like that are either (1) oblivous to how it affects other people, or (2) trendy, because it seems to me it’s a relatively recent addition, and their attitude comes across as “I’ve got to have that!” because they could easily buy trucks, SUVs, and cars that don’t have these lights. We’ve certainly gotten along without them before.

What the fuck? For one thing, how do you suggest I get out of my car on the interstate and tell someone their lights are blinding me?

Second, I’m not going to risk possibly getting shot or beaten up on a city street. People in my area are vindictive as hell. I’ve been chased for miles just because someone thought I cut them off in traffic.

Third, if I’m on my way to work, who the fuck has time to do that, even if the offender would listen (which I doubt they would)?

Well I only do so at a stop. Hence the captive customer thing and all. As for you getting shot or beat up, well, kind of sounds like something you should worry about. The people driving the other cars are just like you. Just as angry and pissed off. I’d be more worried about you having a gun than myself. As long as you have the sense not to get it out until you know you’re going to use it. It’ll all be okay. It’s bright lights, remember? Not somebody raping your loved ones.

I stand corrected. I’ve never heard of anyone deliberately doing this, even among my circle of friends with their jacked up trucks.

Now, I have run across one or two with a really heavy load in the back that shines the headlights in all sorts of obnoxious directions, but that’s not really something we can control either. They’re not something you can adjust on the fly.

I do anyway. They inevitably get all pissy and turn on their own high beams which are almost always less blinding than their low beams + whatever we’re calling those little lights on the bumper.

People around here use these lights constantly, rain or shine, day or night, ALL THE DAMN TIME. I have these lights on my car and have never used them in serious driving (I have tested them to see what difference they make in various conditions (none at all in clear weather and very little with precipitation; I haven’t had a chance to test them in fog)) and was ranting about this very thing a few days ago like “Why do people leave these lights on all the time? Do they think it’s cool?” and people around me admitted that, yeah, when they first got their car equipped with these lights they did, in fact, think they were cool and would drive around town with these lights on for no reason. It’s just about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
