What pragmatic reasons are those, if I may ask?
Avoiding throwing good money after bad, and avoiding encouraging more of the irresponsible behavior that got us into the mess in the first place.
<mod> Yes, please do that. It’s annoying, especially when it becomes a fad. Consider this a caution, not a Warning.

Fine, and people who are troubled by homeless people at soup kitchens with Blackberry Pearls might be motivated by similar concerns.
In practice, it may be hard to draw a clear line between practicality and morality on these sorts of issues.
May I ask how you know it’s a Blackberry Pearl? And may I also ask how you know he’s homeless? Please link to an article with an interview with him.
Ah, so now it’s a Blackberry Pearl. Which he no doubt keeps nestled in the pocket of his expensive designer jeans.
If a guy has a cell-phone, surely he must never ever be short of cash to feed himself. He shouldn’t even be homeless, the goldbricker.
I cried because I was homeless, until I met a man who was homeleast.
I don’t know it’s a Blackberry Pearl and I don’t know if the man is homeless. That’s what is implied in Michelle Malkin’s piece, but let’s stipulate for the sake of argument that she is wrong. Ok?
I don’t support brazil in his naive and immature views, however, I have a nitpick on this. I’m currently reading through the 647 page stimulus bill.
NOW Obama is saying he won’t help the irresponsible, finally he’s saying it. This wasn’t the case when he was first touting his bill. People kept complaining about this, and finally 6 weeks into it, he finally comes up with “only the responsible ‘play by the rules’” people…statement. No, he was all defensive and Waaaaah, my team is so exhausted, you people (meaning we Americans who have the audacity to disagree with him) are too dumb to see reason…blah de blah". What? It took him 6 weeks to hear WHY people were not agreeing with this one thing? That is, the mortgage portion of the plan.
The rest of the 8,900something dumb ideas? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
The OP’s linked article wasn’t written by Michelle Malkin. The completely unrelated article you linked to was written by Michelle Malkin. I knew your talents at derailing threads was extraordinary, but I thought you’d be immune to your own powers or something.
Also, I read the article like, two times, and I don’t see where it was implied that it was a Blackberry Pearl. Could ya help me out there, Sparky?
Here is Michelle Malkin’s piece on the cellphone issue:
-
It clearly makes reference to a “Blackberry Pearl.”
-
It clearly relates to the issue raised in the OP.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that when I referred to “Michelle Malkin’s piece,” you mistakenly understood that to be referring to the Malkin article I had linked to about Minta Garcia.
Ah, I see.
In the future, if you’re going to refer to an article, perhaps you could link to it so we can all read it? Super.
Okay lets say it was a blackberry pearl. Maybe he got it when times were better. Maybe it was gifted to him.
It’s resale value would, maybe, be a three weeks of provisions at best, prolly less figuring the in the cost of a replacement cheap phone.
It’s still possible to use a pearl with a prepaid plan, and the on board wifi means he can get on the internet and look for jobs at any wifi hotspot without a data plan.
In other words that pearl could get him off the street, and there’s no reason it should cost anymore then any other prepared phone to keep running.
People like Brazil here seem to think the poor should suffer as much as possible. Anything nice of theirs should be taken away.
Then the little turd has the nerve to call them the underclass. Irony.
Since we are now allowed to divulge who is on our ignore list (in the Pit), I will note that I do not engage with The Tao’s Revenge anymore due to his previous strawmanning, i.e. misrepresenting of my position.
ok.
::smiles, nods, and goes to the other end of the bar::
c-ya.
You’re as intellectually honest as Karl Rove, and about as cuddly.
I know the post he’s claiming I was “strawmanning”. It was some of his “underclass” none sense that the pit had to pull teeth from a chicken to get him to define. I could dig it up if there’s any interest, but left to myself I can’t be arsed on my own.
I’ll let his known pattern of disingenuous trolling in the global warming threads speak for it’s self about which of the two of us would be “strawmanning”.
Now he’s going to run away because he knows he has no argument.
Hmmm, sounds to me like you hate them.
Now here is a great example of a flame. There’s a bit of a typo, but otherwise this paints a clear picture of the poster’s disgust at another, without using blue language, other than arsed.
For those who wonder if the Pit can still be intense under the new rules, I ask you to pay attention to this post. The comparison to Karl Rove is especially good.
I appreciate the compliment. Thanks:)
However honestly I’m in the antinew rules camp. There’s a saying that opposite of love isn’t hate but indifference. Sometimes someone doesn’t even deserve a creative insult.
I will say this, brazil84 has tirelessly worked to earn my scorn. I won’t deny him that. If I was the manager of a scorn factory I’d prolly give him a raise for his efforts to continually exceed expectations of scorn production.
