Animal abuse is no joke. It is a BIG red flag of sociopathic tendencies - anyone who’s been in the mental health field for any length of time knows that. I used to see that kind of behavior among juvenile sex offenders when I worked in children’s mental health (as a Licensed Social Worker). It was also a method of control used by some seriously abusive parents associated with my case load as a therapeutic foster care worker (before their kids were taken away, that is) - “This is what will happen to you if you fuck with me”. Sociopaths don’t care about any living being except themselves. IMHO.

Again-several cites were given that many serial killers got their start abusing animals, and that it’s a big warning flag of anti-social personality disorder and sociopathy. We all know you don’t like animals, okay? But that doesn’t mean you can spread false information.

The only real difference isn’t the tactile response. It’s that a cat is a living creature capable of feeling pain and fear and if not cruelly inflicting those things on an animal aren’t important to you then I don’t think you’re too many steps removed from the asshole that’s involved in this incident.
I have a feeling that’s not the case though and that you know perfectly well why a cat is different from a computer. Now I’m totally with you in saying that the people calling for, or being ok with, the assault or death of this kid are crossing over into some fucked up territory, but it seems like you’re pursuing a point from a prior argument that’s not much related to the discussion at hand and acting like torturing an animal and stealing a computer are equivalent actions is a bit dumb.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. That should have read, “overly sensitive to the pain and suffering of the animal and the violence of the video in question” not to the boys or the potential consequences of their actions. In fact, now that I’ve had time to stew over it, fuck those kids. Fuck them with a rusty spork and no vaseline. Anybody who wants to stand up for them and say they are just innocent kids and didn’t know what they were doing and blah blah blah bullshit can suck my asshole for free. (A bargain, as I usually charge $5.99 plus tax, which in my area is $6.53.)
If you understood that word, you might realize that the torture of an animal is quite consistent and, to some psych professionals, part of the definition of a sociopath.
Note that it is not the life of the cat that has people upset. It’s the torture of the cat. Kids who torture animals often go on to commit atrocities on people. A lot of them are sociopaths. There’s really not much that can be done to rehabilitate a sociopath other than promising to make life very uncomfortable for them if they step outside societal norms.
So a lot of people are seeing these kids as hopelessly ruined.

Hey Jettboy, I think you’re missing the point. FTR I do not equate animals with people. But 2 sadistic teenagers who get orgasmic enjoyment from the torture and suffering of their family pets is a very serious red flag.
Not sure if you watched the unedited tapes, but this is not the typical case of boys hurting animals as a stupid prank. I’ve heard of kids doing all sorts of horrible thoughtless things that hurt animals…putting firecrackers in fish and watching them blow up, shooting BB guns at stray cats or dogs. Yes those things are bad and the end result for the animal might be the same, but this is something else entirely.
These two psychos are relishing in the suffering of their family pets. After beating Dusty senseless and laughing as he lies there in agony, you can hear them enthusiastically saying “now let’s turn the cold shower on him!” …which they do while maniacally laughing at his continued suffering. There is a reason why this type of abuse is a criminal offense and the DA’s office is treating it so seriously. This is how serial killers start out. These two boys are fucked in the head.

I think what gets me on animal abusers too, and why they ARE so scary is that what they’re doing, they’re doing it soly to CAUSE pain. It’s not about someone slaughtering an animal for food, for example, or because you’re in the Artic, and you need fur to keep warm. No, these people are deliberately trying to cause something to suffer, so they can get their kicks from that.
THAT is what’s so disturbing. That they like seeing something or someone in pain. (And not the good kind, like S&M)

I appreciate your optimism, but no, they held his little face up to the shower head, and based on his reaction I don’t think it made him feel better. But he is doing fine now. He is under the care of a vet and has had offers from around the world to adopt him and/or pay for his medical expenses.
Exactly. Their motive was not to eat, or keep warm, or discover new technologies that might help humans and other animals. Their motive was to inflict pain and suffering on a helpless creature and their ENJOYMENT of this animal’s torture and despair is what makes them sociopaths.
The argument “What about the poor moo cows?” has already been tentatively broached in this thread, but what some people overlook is that humans are conditioned to killing( or having someone else do the killing, to be more accurate.) certain animals for their food.
Some places would object to our cow and pig eating, in the same way we object to cats and dogs being eaten.
But there is no hypocrisy in decrying animal cruelty carried out for entertainments sake, whilst eating a bacon butty…mmmmm…bacon!
That and in the cases of slaughterhouses-cows, pigs, etc-killing is usually done instantly, to be as quickly as possible. It’s not prolonged or drawn out.
