I call those people (and the people that this thread is about) “Ruiners.” Most people aren’t Ruiners, but the ones who are, well, they ruin everything for everybody. I think if anyone knows a Ruiner, they should get drunk and run over them with their car.
Instead of drunk, can I get hopped up on coffee? My aim’s better that way.
Sorry, you need to be drunk and use your car so you can get away with killing people with virtually no penalty.
I’ve worked a lot in management of warehouses. One customer got so upset about not getting a 100% refund on some items since it was something like 60 days since he bought, so he used, ummm, animal excrement, as a packing material.
When the package was opened we had something of a lockdown from the smell and the biohazard factor. Police, Fire departments were called. It was ugly.
There was satisfaction in finding out that the local first responders sent him the bill for the actions they had to undertake, the guy also had legal trouble for shipping such material without proper permits, etc. UPS was particularly harsh in their pursuits, IIRC. It meant a lot of phone conversations with various legal departments but I was fine with that.
We need a return to public stocks and pillories for this kind of crap. We can’t really put people in jail for it and fines don’t work. Perhaps 8 hours locked up and humiliated outside a mall might make a difference.
There used to be a department store chain, Hills, that had a “no questions” return policy. People used to say that Hills was so easy to return things to, they’d return things there that they had bought at other stores.
I’ve wondered if something like that would work for vandals, too. No criminal record, no fines, just spend a couple of hours in stocks in front of the local mall with a, “I spraypaint other people’s property” sign on their chest.
I use a drop shipping service that has a USA address and they forward packages on to the country I am in and expedite customs etc. Oh did I mention customs assrapes you as much as humanly possible, which is still less than the assrape you would normally receive?
Do you know what it feels like to order a laptop online, and when you get it not only is it not what you ordered but a broken old laptop marked “defective” and then to realize you have no clue how to mail this back to the USA and you are out the customs money(HAH good luck wasting time there) and not only that you will have to pay freight and another customs assrape on the replacement?
So its not only asshole customers in the internet purchasing business.
Incidents like this have become so, so common I am starting to think the companies know the addresses of the common drop shippers(its a industrial block in Miami) because even I have started recognizing how common these addresses are. In 26 years in the USA I never had a broken piece of garbage or wrong product mistakingly shipped to me, in three years in the carribean it has to be 25% of online orders!
Yeah, just what we need: giving private companies the power to put people in stocks or pillories.
That’s got to be the stupidest idea I’ve heard all week, excluding what the GOP presidential candidates are saying, of course.
grude, what company did you order the laptop from?
I ONLY order from Amazon after having a similar experience. I bought a lot of stuff over Christmas and when one of my packages was marked as not delivered in Miami, they resent it at no charge to me asking me to ship back the item if I ever got it. I did actually end up getting it here in Trinidad but did not ship it back as I’d already paid the same almost amount to get it here as I paid for the it ($10US memory card $45TT in shipping!)
We actually just ordered a laptop for one of my colleagues (also Amazon) which got lost in shipping. Amazon re-shipped a new laptop with free overnight shipping and it was here within the week.
Where did you order your laptop from?
Terry Ladd. A tosser is Terry Ladd.
(Bolding mine)
So you like the way Amazon treats you and you appreciate that they covered something they weren’t responsible for and only asked you to return the item if it did show up but you decided not to do so?
I didn’t lose the package. Why should I be more than the item is worth out of pocket? If I was in the States, I would have shipped it back in a heartbeat. But then I wouldn’t have had to pay close to the value of the item in customs charges. I spent well over $500US on Amazon over Christmas time. If the item was worth more than $10 I certainly would have returned it but as it stands, it’s not worth my money.
I know it’s not their fault but at the same time it’s not mine either and I figure I’ve given them enough of my hard earned money and will continue to do so in the future.
Edited to add: the order status on my Amazon page still says undelivered…
I’m assuming that you’ll sell the duplicate item at some point, thus gaining profit at Amazon’s expense. If you’re going to steal from a vendor, you probably shouldn’t attempt to justify it. You’ve given them your hard earned money in exchange for goods, so it’s not like it’s a charitable donation.
Count me in as someone who saves all the packing material and boxes so if I need to return something, it is packed in a way that the company could virtually put it back on the floor to re-sell without worry.
But, those hermetically-sealed plastic packages (usually electronic stuff)–there is no way to open those packages without ripping it to shreds. I’ve had to return items before packaged like this and I’m embarassed when I can’t get it to look nice.
The worst I’ve ever had is working at a hardware store and people trying to return spray paint. I can’t count the number of conversations that went like this:
Customer: I want to return this, I bought the wrong color.
Me: OK, We can do that. <I pick it up and take the cap off>. Wait, you’ve used this. It’s only half full and I can see the spray on the nozzle.
Customer: Yeah but it’s the wrong color.
Me: The color is the color of the cap.
Customer: I know, but I decided I didn’t want that color.
Me: I can’t give you you’re money back, the can is not defective. It IS the color you chose and it IS half empty. I can’t exactly put this back on the shelf.
Customer: But I don’t want that color now.
GAAAAH!
You’re talking about the clamshell things? I hate those. I try not to destroy packaging either so my approach to these is to take a utility knife and slit two adjacent sides of the package. This way I can usually pry the innards out and the packaging is usable enough that I could put everything back into it. It could never pass for unopened, but at least the merchant can see that I didn’t dip it in paint, keep the main item, etc.
Sometimes I try to use scissors instead of a utility knife but I find that I need to use a pretty heavy duty pair to get through the seams.
Yes, and evidently the same as wanker, which I was familiar with. Thanks
