I Pit Mitt ... (Romney that is) ... Massachusetts Governor

As shown by the fact that Mike Dukakis was the only Democrat governor in the last 20 years. Heck, add in 4 years of Ed King and those are the only Democrat governors in the last 40 years.

Sure, MA is predominantly Democrat, but ominipresent and unstoppable? If that’s omnipresent, I’m curious to see what level of Democrat non-presence you’d be satisfied with.

p.s. I must’ve missed the law to which the OP is referring. Where, exactly, is it in law that someone has an obligation to enlist as opposed to being conscripted?

Monty
Okay technically, under the law it is not draft-dodging per se.
Geez you don’t have to take everything so literally.
After all, you asked me

No Monty I am not insane (although I do suffer from depression). Since when has the diagnosis of insanity been determined by someone’s knowledge and/or interpretation of conscription law?
Technically, Jack Kemp (Republican) and Howard Dean (Democrat) weren’t draft dodgers either. Both Jack Kemp and Howard Dean had medical deferments making them ineligible for military service during the Vietnam War. Still Jack Kemp somehow managed the courage to play quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. And staring death in the face, Howard Dean bravely skied the mountains of Colorado despite his back problem which exempted him from military service.

By the way Monty, I see from your profile, you are a retired US Navy Petty Officer. I thought someone who actually served in the military might get upset about stories such as these. (I guess not).

It’s not technically draft dodging because it’s simply not draft dodging at all.

It’s not. I apologize for the comment then. I’m sorry you have to deal with that condition and flippant insensitive remarks. What I should’ve asked is: “Are you actually stupid?”

Playing football and skiing are different things than fighting in combat. There may be any number of reasons they received medical deferments.

I don’t get upset about people availing themselves of whatever the law provides. That is, after all, one of the things my oath of enlistment entailed: “to support and defend the Constitution.”

[QUOTE=Monty]
Are you actually insane? Obtaining college deferments is not draft dodging.

[QUOTE]
 It was during the *last * administration.

Yeah? What particular law defined it that way?

The law of physics that if you throw enough shit against the wall, some of it will stick.

In answer to your politely phrased question

Gee whiz no - but thank you for asking. I am a Mensa member (and no doubt the vast majority of Dopers would also qualify). This is a message board which has a very high percentage of extremely intelligent folks.
Of course intelligence does not necessarily convey good manners.
I noticed the SDSAB title under your user name. That is a rather prestigious designation. However, sometimes I think it can inflate someone’s ego way too much. Oh, I am not necessarily referring to you.
I remember another SDSAB whose demeanor became increasingly patronizing and eventually he left the SDMB. (Took his shovel and sand pail with him too).
I wonder if history may be repeating itself … again … for the second time … once more.
(Oh and before you correct me, yes, I realize the previous sentence is redundant. I did it purposely to convey some humor. You are familiar with that concept aren’t you? If so, you should try using it more often - even at the risk of getting knocked off your SDSAB ‘high horse’.)

(Just to put things in perspective, Q.E.D. also has the SDSAB title. He is extremely intelligent, and his postings are always polite and very helpful. Some folks don’t let the title go to their head.)

See, Monty, Clinton was called a draft-dodger and it stuck to him.

It’s not a law. Get away from ‘law’ - wolf never even used the term ‘draft dodger’ - the law and the term draft-dodger are artificial demands you’ve placed on the situation.

Clinton was attacked for his lack of military service and his deferments. So can Romney be.

And that is WHY MA democrats VOTE for republican governors-they are afraid of being totally robbed by a one-party state government. like the present gang of thieves-the legislature 9under Dukakis0 promised to restore the 5% state income tax rate, once the fiscal crisis was past-that was 20 years ago. So far, the legislature haslied long and consistently-although they just agreed to drop it back over 3 years 9from the present 5.3% rate).
