So i hit 36 this year and my reflexes/response time has been going down but I only notice because they are going down at a different rate from each other. I’ll explain.
When I hear a loud noise, I just now am beginning to react to it a split second before I consciously hear it. So my hearing reaction time is slipping (or charitably, you could say my fight or flight reaction time is improving). When my cubie at work or my annoying druggie slash consumptive neighbor (not sure which) cough, I flinch about 1/5 a second before I realize I hear it.
Which is annoying at work or sitting in my home. But the other night when trying to get to sleep, I start to flinch. This time is even worse than the others: I have enough time to actually think before I consciously hear the noise, not actual english, but thoughts to the effect of *oh crap, my neighbor just coughed again, now I am going to hear it and it will be really disturbing because I flinched again before hearing the sound and its even worse because I am just getting to sleep and it will be sort of frightening and it will stop me from getting to *BEEEEP! So yeah. I thought that before I realized it was not my neighbor coughing but rather a car horn going off.
I hate my reactions dimming at different speeds!
