Did you get to trial the lenses for a while before buying them? I had free (soft) contacts for well over six months as the optometrist was very interested in making sure that I was comfortable. I’d be given various different brands to try and I’d report back after wearing them for a couple of weeks.
The result was that when I finally decided which ones were the most comfortable, I knew that we had been very thorough and that I had the best (for me) soft lenses available.
I now constantly forget that they are there and it only takes me a couple of minutes each morning to put them in.
Eh gad, you’re better than I for trying contacts. God knows I could never put anything in my eye.
Another vote for Lasik… works like wonders (BETTER than 20/20) and cost effective.
Also, a lot of docs will let you do one eye at a time, AND you can get financing (24 or 36 months i think, which should put pymnts around 75$ / month if you do both eyes).
Come on guys, do you think I look THAT bad in my glasses that I need Lasik?
Anyway, I talked to the Dr last night. Asked him about the refund rules and he said if I want to switch to soft I wouldn’t be out too much $$. Pretty minimal.
I asked how long till I was sure I knew if I could pull it off or not. He said by my appointment in 2 weeks I’ll know.
Things are getting better. I really think the biggest part of my problem is having to wear them in front of the computer all day (the only solid block of time I have when I’m not at risk to lose my lenses from activity)
The getting in and out thing is getting better. I’m not 100% good at it, but I think after I totally freaked out about getting them in that one day I am embarassed at myself enough to forge ahead and make it work.
Asked the Dr about the plunger. He said if I REALLY wanted one he’d give me one but he’d rather see me learn to do it w/o leaning on the plunger so I can get them out in any situation. Makes sense to me. I told him i’d let him know when I come back if I really need one.
So since a Pit shouldn’t end on a peaceful note - man, you soft lens wearers and Lasik folks are pussies
Good luck. I’d ask for the plunger anyway for those nights where you’re hyped up on PCP and can’t wash the bugs off your hands. That way you can still take your contacts out, content that they won’t be covered in bug dirt. :dubious:
Oh yeah? Well, when I broke my right wrist, I once had to put my contacts in single-handedly, with my non-dominant hand, in a hotel room in the dark. (I was on a business trip and the power went out.)
I always had problems with contacts when I was at a computer for long periods of time. Apparently when I’m sitting here, I don’t blink very often. It doesn’t make a difference with glasses, but with the contacts, it was getting really uncomfortable. That’s one major reason I gave in and got glasses instead.
They did work well for me for several years, I am not anti-contact except for my own eyes. But they do have their own set of problems.
And I’m far too big a coward (besides being broke) to get surgery. Plus, what with my eyes tending to be dry, that makes me even more hesitant, seeing as dry eyes are a fairly common aftereffect, or so I’ve heard.
