I pit...myself

Do you really expect engagement when you make such incredibly lazy lies like this?

Every accusation etc.

I see you’ve found ChatGPT.

I see the bigger harm being in institutions that enforce an orthodoxy. Institutional capture is the name of the long game. Pushing the idea that justices determine law was a swell idea until it wasn’t. Advocating for powerful institutions to suppress and punish freedom of expression might be equally a transitorily swell idea.

Wow, you’ve come over to the left side then?

Institutions have always “enforced an orthodoxy” to varying degrees. Your selective worry about it - always on the left, never on the right - is not credible.

It’s the ultra right who enforce orthodoxy. It’s (mostly) the left who challenge it. And you, octopus, are just a prawn, dangling around in the tentacles of uncertainty ROFLMAO.

Man, I would join in the ass kicking, but it looks like octopus is doing a fantastic job of kicking his own ass.:rofl:

I am the tentacled one! See the avatar?

That’s an awfully philosophical conundrum really. Can an octopus kick its own arse? Does it have one? Does it have knees? Oh my, I shall have many questions to sleep upon tonight.

Yeah, it’s not entirely surprising that someone who doesn’t have any experience with personal prejudice would be more concerned with hypothetical, largely ideologically-derived concerns over real-world harms to living people.

I’ve never understood this idea. I agreed with the court when it ruled on Roe. I disagreed with it when it overturned it. The idea that I’d change my mind on the role of the Court when it stopped it stopped producing rulings I agreed with is like assuming that I’m going to change my mind about democracy when a Republican wins an election.

Which, as we’ve recently learned, is exactly how Republicans thinks, so I guess I understand why that argument comes up so much.

Advocating that powerful institutions oppose bigotry is always going to be a good idea. It remains a good idea even when the bigots get in power, and start advocating for bigotry.

Institutions that have been empowered to do the common good have done the most harm in the history of the world. Every thing from religious inquisitions to flawed revolutions like the French revolution to the horrors of the 20th century have been perpetrated by powerful institutions in an environment lacking a widespread belief in strong individual liberty.

My personal experience is irrelevant compared to the historical record of the dangers of the concentration of power. Once power is concentrated the fight is on to seize that where the power is.

Unfortunately, in my house the power to assign laundry chores is not in my hands and I got to get to folding. :frowning:

They have also done the most good in human history. Unsurprisingly, humans are able to accomplish a lot more when they work in concert than when they work as individuals.

Then your concern should not be with any particular ruling made by the College of Psychologists of Ontario, but with the fact that it exists in the first place. Whether they sanction or protect Peterson should be equally objectionable, as they are only able to do either because of their concentrated power.

Unless your position is that concentrations of power are okay, so long as they act in ways that comport with your personal definition of liberty. Which is fine, but you shouldn’t act all outraged when other people are okay with concentrations of power that support their personal definitions of liberty.

Not to mention Eisenhower.

Not until Ike learned that to beat the man, he’s gotta be the man. Then he understood.

This demonstrates that your knowledge of history is just at a kid’s level indeed.

Doesn’t octo have a separate Pit thread already?

You think he’s going to give the woke mob the satisfaction of playing their game?

I was just about to remark on that. You know how on CS, there will be a sub-heading that indicates the general direction of the thread’s theme (movies, cooking, literature)? The Pit could use one for threads that turn into The octopus Show.

Or, you could demonstrate some agency and choose to scroll past or read something else. Unless your modem is a literal potato or turnip it shouldn’t be that hard.
