The logic is, arresting a prostitute is unlikely to stop her from being a prostitute because she has no other options in life. Being a street prostitute means you’ve already pretty much fallen off the last rung of the social ladder. Getting arrested is just one more hassle, and not the biggest one they’re going to face. The johns, on the other hand, are often much more prosperous, have more to lose from being caught, and less to lose from simply avoiding prostitution entirely. Focusing enforcement on them is going to be much more effective in quashing prostitution in a particular area than arresting the women, who are likely going to be right back out there in a day or two.

This is faulty logic to me too. If the Johns are gone, there is no more financial insentive to be a prostitutes, so they will be forced to find some other way to support themselves, hence stopping the problem. Arresting the Johns will help curb the “problem” probably as much as arresting the prostitutes.

And that sort of logic has been so successful on the “war on drugs”? I see your point but absent a massive police action it just isn’t going to make that much of a difference.

IMNSHO - Oprah sucks. The only strippers/porn stars/etc. I’ve ever seen on the show were crack addicts, abused as children, and PRAISE THE LORD, are now free of the evil sex trade!
By Og, I’m embarrassed to be male when I get stuck watching that crap. But I’m sure healthy relationships and good clean no-one-gets-hurt sex doesn’t draw the soap opera watchers.
