Hope. Hope never changes.

I’m so tired of hearing (some) men tell me that pregnancy (or the avoidance of it) isn’t a healthcare issue.
Really.
Don’t worry, no insult taken. I was just surprised by your answer since I’d have assumed someone familiar with the myth would know Scylla was female.
Moreover, based on your age, I’d have assumed you were familiar with* Marathon Man.*
Rush’s ‘slut’ ‘prostitute’ ‘video tape’ comments are ridiculous, of course, but his radio show commentary is ridiculous nearly every weekday. It bugs me that the rest of the media is making such a big deal out of this one and giving him the extra attention. Rush relishes in angering ‘the left’ and ‘drive by media’. He’s happier than a pig in shit right now. He likely cheered the election of Obama in '08 since it has provided him with endless punditry fodder. At least he did lose a small sliver of advertizing sponsors this week.
Rushie frequently rants about the culture of dependency (i.e. reliance on government, loss of individual responsibility) and ‘cultural rot’ (such as societal acceptance of homosexuals, out of wedlock fornicating and child rearing, abortion, etc.). The concept of gov’t mandated insurance programs issuing birth control pills without co-payments strikes against his beliefs on multiple levels. In Rushbo’s world, abortion should prevented by abstinence and making abortion illegal and equating murder and economic rot is caused by, at least in part, by cultural rot. The rabid ignorance of Rush and others about how birth controls pills are used is alarming but no longer surprising.
I listen to Rush on occasion for entertainment to stay abreast of what the mindless dittoheads and others are absorbing. I recall him saying one day that sex should be used for procreation only. Hearing this from a 61 year old married four times with no children was rather laughable. Absurd, on purpose, he is.
MahaRushie is the spritual leader of the right wing and a large faction of the GOP voters. Republican politicians even call into his show sometimes to kiss his ring.
Personally, I wish employers and jobs would be left out of the loop in health care and insurance. The health care law passed on 2010 left much of the status quo intact, unfortunately.
I am somewhat sympathetic to religious-organization-associated-employers (universities, hospitals, etc) who don’t want to loosely play a part in some esoteric moral hazard like birth control.
I have a somewhat related question for Dopers though: What is the mechanism of ‘aspirin between the knees’ method that Foster Friess mentioned about gals back in his days? Were the gals holding their knees together while the men stimulated themselves between her thighs without penetration? If so, why aspirin? If no, then what the hell was he talking about?
Huh, whodathink it?
From: Rush Limbaugh Apologizes To Sandra Fluke For Calling Her A 'Slut' | HuffPost Latest News
Rush is still off base, but is actually a better person than Scylla.
Basically, it was “keep your legs closed if you don’t want to get knocked up”.
Rush caves to pressure, apologizes to Sandra Fluke:
[blows smoke from revolver and spins it into holster] Sorry, pardner.
I knew I should have pulled the trigger, then edited the quote. :smack:
That’s not an apology. He’s so sorry for his choice of words, but he continues to misconstrue her testimony and the issue as a whole.
The only reason the pilonidal cyst apologized is the advertisers are getting nervous…
$$$
I give him no credit, fuck him. He apologized because not doing so was costing him money. He’s a vile human being and it’ll take a hell of a lot more than a forced apology (accompanied by more repeated lies) to mitigate any of that.
Fucking liar.
Fuck his pathetic non-apology, and fuck his advertisers if they don’t abandon him, and fuck Clear Channel for continuing to provide him a bully pulpit to spew poison. Fuck his listeners and his followers and his sycophants. Fuck the people who continue to insist that this is an issue of taxes, or personal behavioral choices, or anything other than a continuation of the denial of women’s rights to make their own medical and health care choices.
He called her a slut daily for three days in a row. That is not an accident or an unfortunate word choice. That was on purpose. And he is still pretending that “having a medical issue treatable by hormonal therapy” is “a personal sexual recreational activity.” BZZZZZT. Try again.
While I don’t have any doubts whatever as to the sincerity of Limbaugh’s unpology, it is unusual that he caved to pressure (in a very limited and heavily qualified self exonerating way). I wonder what did it: the sponsors or the right wing critics gaining momentum (there were church groups and an organization called The Christian Left bombarding the station with emails) or just the whole thing.
And has he ever backtracked even this much?
The sponsors, I’m sure. He laps it up gleefully when people get outraged, but he’ll take notice if he’s worried he won’t be able to afford his hookers and oxycontin anymore. Which makes me wonder if somebody at Clear Channel took him by the ear and whispered sweet nothings about cancelling his show.
It’s a little late to apologize after ripping into her on two seperate broadcasts.
First, he heard from the outraged feminists, but he just laughed. Then he heard from the media, and he scoffed. Then he heard from the President, in a round about way, and he wasn’t impressed. Then he heard from his accountants. And he apologized.
