I got a kid expelled as a SUB when he verbally threatened me for the second time, and after he backed up and apologized about 4 times when he realized I was serious about reporting it. And this was in Lynwood, CA. (look up the demographics some time). The OP’s circumstances were ridiculous. Shame on the administration.
The more I read this thread, the more my sympathies are for the kids. What he did was wrong, and he most likely needs professional help (which he most likely will not get), but there seems to be this attitude of self-righteous anger towards teens here. Or do the people here also threaten co-workers with their jobs when harsh words are exchanged? (obviously, if you are threatened or punched at work, amongst adults, that’s a whole nother story.) I feel more sorry for the kid at this point than I do the teacher.
Expulsion solves nothing–it puts a kid with anger management issues outside his peer group and on the street with nothing but time and boredom on his hands–great solution! :rolleyes:

It solves plenty, honeychild. Mr. Anger-Management-Issues isn’t the only kid in the class. Every moment spent dealing with his psychological problems is a moment every other kid in the class isn’t being instructed in the subject matter mandated. Learning does not take place in an environment where either the teacher or the students are worried about personal safety. The mechanisms are in place for him to get the kind of help he needs beginning with the school psychologist. The subject teachers are there to teach a subject. Until he can control his issues he doesn’t belong in a regular classroom.

Do you teach? Do you work in the public education system? I get a distinct impression you don’t. Even following an expulsion, the school is required by law to provide a student with his government guaranteed education. Expulsion means that the student is no longer permitted to be part of the general population of students. It does not mean the system washes its hands of the student. Understand?

No, actually it’s pretty simple. I don’t like you because of your personality. You want to be the board Dr. Phil and yet also want to fuck with people.
