Have you ever heard of war?
Legal, government sanctioned murder is still murder.

I agree. We can’t vote our way out of this problem. Both parties work for the rich, just to different degrees.
I hope one juror votes not guilty at the trial.
Vigilante justice was used to fight against slavery. Then organized, legal violence in the form of a war was used to abolish it in the US.
They called John Brown a terrorist and a murderer too. A few years later they were singing folk songs about him because they realized he was right.
This is a Joke Thread, right?
Violence is required for society to survive. Society cannot survive without violence. Its what the police and military are for. Even in nations that don’t have a military (like Costa Rica) they still have a police force and they have military alliances.
We agree to give the government a monopoly on violence so that whatever violence is required is done in a controlled, regulated fashion for the benefit for everyone. With no violence (no police and no military) society collapses. Or it gets conquered by another society that does use violence.
Sadly the government has been captured by the rich. It feels like people can’t vote their way out of this problem. What options are left? Other options that could help like a mass strike are also illegal and will be met with police violence.
I’m not going to commit illegal violence, but I hope at least one juror finds Luigi not guilty. Jury nullification is a powerful tool in the toolbox. Abolitionists used it all the time.
As people keep saying, I wish this would be a wake up call to the plutocrats who run this country so we can solve this problem. But sadly it won’t be. Nothing will change and we will continue to be told that violence is only ok when the government gives you permission first. The problem is the government works for the plutocratic class and we can’t vote our way out.
They called Timothy McVeigh one too. Get your head out of your ass.
They called Timothy McVeigh one too.
If you can’t see the difference between fighting slaveowners and avaricious billionaires who kill people to Make Line Go Up, and bombing a daycare because you believe in conspiracy theories, then I’m not the one with a misplaced cranium.
Violence is not inherently wrong if it’s done to advance a just cause. I ask again - if Luigj Mangione had shot Hitler would you still be calling him a murderer?
Hey! Let’s play ‘Who said it Tim McVeigh or Smapti?’
Do we have to shed blood to reform the current system? I hope it doesn’t come to that. But it might.
Hey, I can provide out of context quotes too!
The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
Wanna guess which moral monster said that? I think you’ll be surprised. Here’s another;
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Whoever said that must have been absolutely villainous, amirite?
Wasn’t that Patton?
The first quote, not the Bible one.
Violence is not inherently wrong if it’s done to advance a just cause.
They all say that don’t they? They all think they’re supporting a just cause.
Just own your amorality.
Wasn’t that Patton?
Bingo. It’s almost as if the purpose behind an act is what defines its righteousness rather than the act itself.
They all say that don’t they? They all think they’re supporting a just cause.
So shooting Hitler would be wrong, then?
Ah yes. The ends justify the means.
Go ahead have fun and justify any atrocity you want. You can join the likes of Hitler and the rest who believed they murder whoever they wanted for “justice”.
Why have courts or laws at all?

What’s the missing context?

I can take solace in the fact that you are too much of coward to kill anyone. It’s a shame that the world is filled with others who aren’t.
I get why you don’t want to say that shooting Hitler is wrong. It blows a giant hole in your “violence is never justifiable” worldview.
Just own your amorality.
What’s the missing context?
By your logic, a person talking about making people die for their country must be a Bad Person, because killing people is what Bad People do, and the thing that makes them Bad People is that they kill.
The missing context is that the person who said it is an American hero who saved the world for democracy, and the people he said it about were Nazis.
A philosophy that holds that it is wrong to kill Nazis is morally bankrupt.
You are clearly mentally ill. I should not engage with you further.
