I pit the idolization of Luigi Mangione

Because the system is designed to give Republicans an edge in getting elected, and to suppress the Democratic vote.

By this logic you’d support a successful assassination of Trump by a Democrat. Heck, I’m depressed to admit that I would have been overjoyed if one of the previous attempts had been successful.

People who support bloodshed or revolution are rarely the ones who have to pull the trigger or face the families afterwards.

That can’t be meaningfully discussed here, since it’s IIRC against the rules. And likely genuinely dangerous to say “yes”.

Fair enough, I retract my question.

This is the most genuinely surprising post in this thread. In my mind, you and Der_Trihs are closer to one another than to anyone else on this board in your positions, reasoning, and philosophy. Do you actually see yourself as significantly different from him?

Not fair. So far as I know, Der_Trihs hasn’t come out in support of a genocide.

Politicians can’t be threatened just for laws that they design, but if you die from a complicated pregnancy that’s fine…

From Don’t Politicize This — a catchy tune, y’all really should give it a listen (link is to the bandcamp page).

Now, now, it’s not genocide it’s double plus good murder.

Good thing I haven’t done that either.

He was formally indicted on federal charges today. I have no pity for him since his violence brought him into play.
I have a back problem different from his that keeps me up at night. If I were in his prison, I doubt I could get a decent mattress, a chiro/medical specialist or even a hot water bottle and pain pills. I’m sure I would get turned down for most of these luxury items.

Leniency for this Luigi Mangione supporter, who called for the killing of a hospital system CEO?

Billionaires, high-dollar CEOs and wealth concentration are why we have SovCits ITFP (at least in large part). Those folks are, or have been made to feel, marginalized and/or shut out of the system. Leveling out wealth and razing some major socioeconomic barriers would go a long way toward repatriating a lot of SovCits.

The thing about sov cits (I first typed sob cits, which is how it generally turns out for them) is that they feel they’re superior to the common rabble of folks who feel responsibility toward each other. They are privileged in that they don’t have to obey any laws or regulations they don’t like - which amounts to anything that costs them money or inconveniences them in any fashion.

They’re not rebelling against billionaires and CEOs so much as democratic society as a whole.

Glorifying or making excuses for Luigi Mangione does tend to encourage their criminal behavior (as in this case)

Yes, SobCits are not rebelling against billionaires. I apologize if you got that impression from my post. What I am saying is that the culture that nurtures billionaires and high dollar CEOs is the same environment that gives rise to a lot of underlying problems, SobCits being one of them. They are a relatively small problem in the overall vector map of society, but there are a whole host of other small problems to which they add.
Wealth disparity is not the only causal vector relative to society’s ills, but it is a very non-small one, that comes with some troubling feedback loops.

Without any explanation of how that’s supposedly happening

SovCits are an intersection between conspiracy theorists and fraudsters. “Wealth disparity” has fuck-all to do with it.

Some SovCits are wealthy which invalidates your whole speculation here. In fact it’s pretty common. Wealthy people feel especially entitled.

Case in point, Wesley Snipes was convicted of tax evasion after using classic SovCit logic to explain why he didn’t owe taxes. I’ve seen videos of people with expensive homes and cars spouting this stuff.

Yes, but I think eschereal has a valid broader point that excessive wealth and power stratification is part of what’s helping sour a lot of people on “democratic society as a whole”.

You are right that the only people who respond to that souring by going full SovCit are people with conspiracy theorist/fraudster tendencies. But that doesn’t mean that the two phenomena are entirely independent.

From what I’ve seen (and I think there’s a little research on this) a lot of SovCits come from two sources, people that have for various reasons have either; lost custody of children or had their driver’s license suspended. There are some outliers (I know of at least one the became a SovCit because her mortgage was foreclosed and her house was sold at a sheriff’s sale) but those two are the most common.

I think one relationship is that SovCits have the billionaire attitude of being above the rules, without billions of dollars to back it up. So they get arrested and mocked instead of being deferred to.

You forget the secret Treasury account that’s opened when a baby is born. Many billions of dollars await those who know the truth.

I am surprised that no one has yet mentioned Unalive the Billionaires by Farley Katz. You want idolization of Luigi Mangione? Get your copy FREE at Amazon. It’s pretty effin unbelievable that it is so, but it’s been there for at least 3 months. I read it. I’m a cranky old white guy who is not easy to please, and I loved it.

Here’s a good review of sov cits by Christine Sarteschi, a professor of social work and criminology at Chatham University, who’s been following the movement.

The article also mentions the Posse Comitatus as an ancestor of the sovereign citizen movement.
