I pit "the shooting was staged" conspiracy theorists

There are an alarming number of people on my friends list on Facebook who believe that this latest shooting against the Trump administration at the dinner was staged/faked. What’s more, a lot of it is coming from my own side, which I identify as liberal / Democrat. A lot of it is also coming from people who I tend to highly respect and think of as intelligent, smart people who would never drink the Flavor Ade…and yet it seems that a lot have over this.

Even on here I have seen a couple people question it and speak of it with a certain amount of dubious air in their posts and wording.

I want to believe that this is the minority opinion and that mass hysteria and beliefs in conspiracy theories are not taking hold. Please don’t start wearing tin foil hats. And now I’m going to struggle to keep my respect for some of these people whom I feel my respect for a wavering due to their seemingly harebrained beliefs now.

Look, yes, it is possible it was staged. It’s possible, but I feel it is way stronger of a possibility that is real. A lot of people are pissed off at Trump right now. His approval ratings are the lowest in history of US presidency. There are people who are wishing to see him in a grave daily. You cannot tell me that somebody in this world, somebody more unstable than you, decided to make a go at it. It is entirely possible. You’re telling me with all the fuck ups that Donald Trump has been doing…that somebody didn’t finally think “I’m just going to have to take matters into my own hands”. Holy shit, color me shocked, the thought of somebody doing that is just crazy talk. Can you hear the sarcasm in my words right now?

Come on. Some of you are smarter than this. I want to believe that most of you are smarter than this. Why you giving in so easily to conspiracy theories?

The moon landing happened too, you know.

There’s a photo that shows Melania and another person behind Trump reacting to the gunshot, and him sitting there with a stupid grin on his face. I can’t see how anyone of normal sensibilities could not react when hearing a gunshot, and I think it just shows how vacant his brain is these days that he didn’t.

I think back to the quote by Buzz Aldrin (or some other astronaut) about the conspiracy theories about the Moon landing being faked: “It would have been harder to fake it than to do it.”

I don’t actually think either assassination attempt was staged. This one in particular is pretty much a nothingburger. Some shots were fired in the same building as the POTUS, he was not remotely in danger, this will be forgotten about in the next news cycle. Its not distracting anyone from esptein, the Iran war, or anything else, it’s certainly not raising any sympathy for Trump.

That said I don’t class the conspiracy theories about these as something completely crazy and unbelievable. Trump and the people around him would stage something like this in a minute if they thought it would help them. Its just absolutely none of the incompetent fascist lackeys around Trump have the skills required to pull off something like this and not have it discovered in 10 seconds flat (if they could avoid accidentally live streaming the whole conspiracy)

After over a decade of virulent, nonsensical, Reich-wing conspiracy theories, it’s fun to throw some back at them. One person in particular (you know who I mean).

Yeah, I don’t think it was staged but after hearing that every fucking school shooting was a psyop I damn well feel no guilt over throwing that shit right back at them.

No they aren’t: both Nixon and Truman bottomed out around 25%.

My wife also thought this was staged, or at least gave credence to the idea it might have been, and I just asked her if it was crazy to think someone might have wanted to kill him. Or even maybe shoot the reporters there, show Trump how loyal he was by executing the “fake news” traitors in front of his approving messiah. She admitted either one made sense.

She then also started talking about how Erika Kirk was there and probably wasn’t having the best time, as she might have a bit of PTSD, but wasn’t super sympathetic about it.

If it gets any of his conspiracy-obsessed maga base to question him, I’m all for any conspiracy theory.

RFKjr. didn’t look too comfortable either.

I do agree a new CT is the last thing we need.
Heck yes people are mad. And there’s guns to be had pretty easily.
I totally believe Trump will be shot, if not dead pretty significantly before his term is up
Especially if people on the right start really talking 3rd term for Trump.
That’s when the fires will start.

I don’t know that “conspiracy theory” is the right term. It’s not like anyone is saying this shooting was staged by the Iluminati or the Russians or space aliens. I think it could have been “arranged” by trump supporters who are still distracting the public from the Epstein files.

I want to know about this:

Yes, me too.

The reason why I wouldn’t discount this as a conspiracy theory is because Trump is 1) a wannabe dictator; 2) a pathological liar. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was staged.

That said, we would need an explanation for who the alleged shooter is and, if he’s the actual shooter, how they got him to do it; and if he is not the one who did it, who did.

Cult members could have a lot of trouble trying to explain how they know it wasn’t staged.

That’s not how it works, though. MAGA loyalists aren’t going to believe it was staged, they’ll believe that the anti-Trump folks who say it was staged are crazy.

No, Maga is going to blame this on gay, trans, socialist, Satan worshiping, atheist, Democrat, followers of Soros (so Jews). Mix and match at your pleasure.

100%.

Any evidence that contradicts that narrative is “fake news” from left-wing haters of America and freedom.

Don’t know if this is at all informative.

You mean, the use of a common idiom used metaphorically less than a day before the same common phrase could be used literally? Coincidence. The alternative (Leavitt knew there would be gunshots and just couldn’t help blurting that out, but in a context where it clearly meant the metaphorical usage) is silly.

It is an unfortunate consequence of using violent terms to describe non-violent things. Hopefully this post doesn’t blow up on social media. I’d be bombarded with questions if a bomb actually went off. There would be riots in the street over my use of bombarded right before a real bombardment happened.

Etc.

That photo is misleading. I’ve seen the video from that time period. The mentalist, who was going to perform later, was showing a trick to them. The photo is taken just as he reveals the “surprise”. A few seconds after that, you can hear the gunshots on the video but apparently not on the dais. They don’t react until people start running toward them.
