Eliminate the minimum wage, cut welfare, eliminate the SNAP program… These are all Conservative goals aimed squarely at hurting the poor, because as they keep telling us, people on welfare or in need of assistance are just a bunch of lazy moochers who need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Not quite. Most conservative Christians oppose, not the goals of the programs, but who benefits from them. They’re for case-by-case, conditional charity where **they **get to decide who gets the charity, and use it as leverage to get the “deserving” poor to do this or that rather than a blanket society-wide system that covers everyone regardless of colour or creed.
So, pretty much how Christian missions operate in Africa : they distribute free food, buuuut you have to convert and come to Church every week and toss your condoms and so on before you can get any.
So, it’s no less damaging to society than just cutting all aid for the sake of Ayn Rand, but it’s a bit more slimy and manipulative.
