I pit YogSosoth

Hate to break it to you, but in between cleaning my guns, fondling them and cleaning them again, I managed to see through his bullshit. He is nothing but a troll looking to get a rise. I called him an asshole however, and I got warned.

Go figure.

I don’t think he was/is a troll. I think that he believed what he was saying.

I have a cousin that gets upset about these issues. One time talking to her she was upset about guns that had holes in the side of the barrel.

???

It took some doing, but it turns out she was talking about barrel shrouds. She had NO idea what they where for, but was absolutely sure that they should be banned.

Such is the influence of Hollywood, and people like Carolyn Kennedy.

psst… Carolyn McCarthy or Kennedy now that I think about it.

Although I haven’t gone back to check, I strongly suspect I got my first official mod warning as a result of my exasperation with that mindless idjit refusing to learn anything about the subject it was condemning.

Yep. I’m wrong. Carolyn McCarthy.

I never considered myself ‘pro’ gun until I heard the ridiculous arguments of the OBVIOUSLY anti-gun folks that call themselves gun-control.

The ignorance, and dishonesty from these folks has gone so over the top that I will never, never trust them.

I hope with your permission JXJohns, a quote from the GD debate….

This is suggested legislature? If it is, it’s gives ALL of us more reason to fight for our rights. Unbelievable. This is the worst double speak I have ever seen.

Don’t you know why they want barrel shrouds banned?

They allow Teflon Koated Heat Seeking Armor Piercing Kop Killer Bullets to come out the side of the barrel, through those holes your cousin was so afraid of.

'S’true. I read it on the intrawebs.

Yes it is legit. I think I liked to it in one of the last posts. It was last introduced in 2008, but my link is to the 2007 version. Coincidentally, they are about word for word copies.

What ARE barrel shrouds for?

Sez here:

You left part of that quote out.
Barrel shrouds have little or no effect on the ballistic performance of the firearm on to which they are installed.

 So what? I left out another part of that quote too:

I quoted only the sentences that were most directly relevant to Guin’s question about what a barrel shroud is. You got a problem with that?

Were you imagining that perhaps I nefariously omitted the last sentence because I wanted to somehow make Guin believe that barrel shrouds are dangerous?

Has there been a machine gun manufactured with a barrel shroud since WW2? Seriously, I’d say that a Browning 0.3" with a barrel stroud is a lot less dangerous than an M-249 Minimi without one.

Whether they’re manufactured that way or not, I cannot speak.

But, I found a few pictures of M240’s without them.

Admittedly, I found a lot more with them…

Umm… I know a thing or two about the FN-MAG (A.K.A. M-240). Used to carry one on a daily basis. I’ve never hear of one with a barrel shroud.

The ones I pictured didn’t have one, though. So, I guess now you’ve seen.

I wasn’t expecting to find any when I went to look, myself… I guess it’s unsurprising that a mounted weapon wouldn’t have one, but the first of those two links is a portable M240 without one, and that did really surprise me.

I said I’ve never hear of one *with *a barrel shroud. Got any pictures?

Ah, okay.

Yes…

There are a few.
I’ve seen them both ways, online. I haven’t had the chance to see all that many in person, so my experience with them is considerably less than yours.

ETA: I can’t read for shit. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s not a barrel shroud, that’s a foregrip. Barrel shrouds are metal. Those are plastic.

That appears to be metal…

Okay, I really can’t read for shit.

I read your original statement as “Has there been a machine gun manufactured with out a barrel shroud since WW2?” Which is obviously incorrect.
The original Question was “Has there been a machine gun manufactured with a barrel shroud since WW2?”

Does the (FN) FAL categorize as a “Machine Gun?”

I know that the M16 wouldn’t it’s an assault rifle, and the M14 is a Battle Rifle.
