According to a report by UK’s Broadband Deals, Bucharest is the world’s best city for remote working. Cities were ranked depending on their average internet speed Mbps, availability of food delivery companies, the amount of remote working jobs available, cost of a laptop in that city, and cost of living.
Delivery businesses have been thriving for a while in Bucharest.
What makes Bucharest such a great place for remote working is, in my opinion, the friendly job market and affordable fast Internet services.
The fact that people can acquire high quality equipment as well as everything else they need for their daily living at very good prices can only make a quarantined person happy.
We live in a fine place for remote work, which we did before the jobs were shipped to India. The nearest “city” (population 4500) is a half-hour away down 20 mountain miles / 30 steep kilometers; any nearer city would intrude. The landline / cable / net comes on a buried fibre-optic feed that mostly works. Bears rarely shit on our porch. It’s pretty relaxing. City? That’s a place to go when needed.
The world is undergoing a fast process of urbanization for a reason - living in a city offers more advantages than disadvantages. Of course, there will always be people showing some kind of resistance to global trends, but I’ve always lived in busy places and felt good doing it.
As a tourist I have also visited and stayed in remote areas for a while, where there was no TV, the Internet connection was bad, and you had to rely on few or no services. Unless you have a novel to write, it can only be fun for a couple of days.
