So, I’m brushing my teeth today. Being the obsessive reader that I am, I begin reading the directions; just to make sure I’m using the product correctly. At the bottom of the tube, in smaller print it says :
Are there ingredients in toothpaste that could be considered poisons if taken in large enough doses? How much more than just a toothbrush full would you have to take for it to be fatal?
Many things that we consume, or even just use briefly, are problematic in large amounts, particularly if you ingest them: mouthwash, cold sore and canker sore gels…Heck, even vitamins and supplements can wreak havoc with your system if you take too many.
Toothpaste and mouthwash are meant to be spat out. They’re cleansers, not food–right?
FYI, if you use the amount of toothpaste they show in TV commercials, you’re using WAY too much. They just show people using that much to encourage people to waste toothpaste and thus sell more product. Both my dentist and periodontist have lectured me endlessly that you only need a dab of toothpaste the size of a small pea.
