I ripped the keycode on a software package - is the product ruined?

I bought some antivirus software which had a sticker that was supposed to peel off to reveal the keycode. However, when I peeled back the sticker, part of the keycode ripped off with it. Is there anyway I can get it back, or can I kiss my 50 bucks goodbye?

Depends whom you bought it from: if from a shop, they could probably make a phone call; if online, you could phone the makers yourself and explain you can’t read the keycode.
astounded that antivirus software is sold — and astounded that it costs $50

Couldnt you separate paper the keycode is printed on from the sticker
and complete the keycode ?

Or do you mean you were scratching off the sticky material and the keycode scratched away to be illegible ?

I tried to do that, but it was too torn up. Either way, I’m missing about three letters/numbers.

Not sure that this will work but it’s worth a try:

Email the customer service of the company that produces the software and include a digital photo of the ripped off key code. They might be able to email you an alternate code.

These things happen. Call/write them and state your problem succinctly and they will most likely work with you on it. Offering a copy of your receipt and the torn keycode might help.
