I think the key words here are “That’s why I don’t work there anymore.”
Non union empl;oyees get the same benefits as union. That would be in the corporate interest. It would result in more union activity. These benefits are there because of unions. They will slowly go when unions die. Non union workers are paying more of their heath benefits now. that is because they can get away with it.New hires dont get the same benefits as the ones already there.Their pensions are getting cut too. The move to cut has begun. Vacation time is getting trimmed.Health care gettting passed to workers.
thats all well and good when there are other jobs to move to, and other employers who dont treat their employees like disposable assets. But as unions die, those choices of other employees die with them. Eventually all businesses get dragged down to the same deplorable standard…they will have to in order to compete.
I’ve dealt with corporate executives who weren’t shy about telling their employees that the only thing that they cared about was excessive turnover, which cost the company money. If the employees weren’t quitting in droves, everything was A-OK.
