I saw a flying squirrel!

Twice now.

It is the coolest thing since I found the lizards outside my office. I was at tennis practice both times and the little guy sailed into the Pine trees near my court.

It was so exciting, I have not seen one since I was a kid and then I saw one in the same spot last night at practice again.

Feels like when I spot a bright falling star!

I spotted a good-sized gecko out in the back yard a while back. That was cool. Then a few days ago we had three little ones (an inch and a half, including the tail) show up in our bathroom. Unfortunately the cats liked them too. One lost its tail and later died, but we managed to catch the other two when they headed for the front door. I put them outside, down among the leaves, and Zyada saw one of them on the wall the next day.

We both like lizards!

Was there a moose nearby?

Flying squirrels are SO COOL.

I have one that comes to the window feeder on my office window. He sits there at night, and I can walk right up to him - within about 6 inches. He chomps on the seed, and I watch him.

He has really, really big eyes.

Yesterday I rescued a wasp from the pool. It was the biggest damn wasp I’ve ever seen – about 2" long and pretty fat for a wasp. The stinger part was black and yellow striped, and the wasp kept arching the stinger up over its head and back. It was creepy. And the wasp wouldn’t get off the net for about half an hour. About 10 minutes after it finally disappeared from the net, I found it floundering in the pool again.

I’ve never found a dead lady bug in the pool, but I’ve found quite a few live ones floating around on leaves. I don’t know if they’re on the leaf when it falls in the pool or if they can swim and are clever enough to swim to a leaf and get on it.
