I Saw A Music Video On MTV

I don’t remember the artist or the song, I was too shocked. When did MTV start showing music videos?

This almost belongs in the “Back in my day” thread in MPSIMS:

Back in my day, they had videos. They weren’t very good videos, or very good bands, but they showed them over and over. None of this “TRL” or “Dismissed” or “Real Road Rules” crap. And they had real VJs that you cared about, like whether or not Martha Quinn would get acne. My understanding is that nowadays, if you want to see a video, you have to subscribe to MTV2. Or if you are in Europe you can just watch V.

I actually think they started showing more videos after 9/11, for some reason.

Before then, they had completely eliminated almost all the “Music Videos” blocks from their schedule (other than overnight), replacing them with incessant reruns of their programming. Then after the attacks, they just showed 24 hour videos for a few days, once the news coverage was over. I guess that worked out for them, since now they mix those blocks in occasionally during the day. It’s kind of nice.

OTOH, MTV2 shows videos all the time. So if you get that, the fact that MTV doesn’t show videos much doesn’t seem to matter.

I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s been at least ten years since there was a band worthy of making a music video anyway.

MTV-X used to throw in a classic rock video or two with its nu-metal crap, but they took that channel off and replaced it with…“MTV JAMS”!!! Like we need yet ANOTHER channel dedicated to nigger music…

Nice.

like we need yet ANOTHER asshole poster here at the dope.

Damn, damn, dang.

That spoils my favorite trivia question. Of course everyone knows that the first video ever aired on MTV was The Buggles with “Video Killed the Radio Star”.

However, very few people know that the last video ever shown was (by my calculations) Garbage with “Stupid Girl” in the Spring of 1996.

I knew I was gonna get flamed for that…

Anyone who knows me knows that “nigger” isn’t a word I use very often. The fact that I used it at all shows that I’m referring to something that I’m very upset about. Oh, and for effect.

On the other hand, making snap judgments about someone based on their choice of politically incorrect words sounds like a good subject for another thread…hmm…

I think my eyes actually did the cartoon “a-ooooogah” shooting out of my head move when I read that.

So, you say something incredbly offensive for effect, that you knew you’d get flamed for, and then you blame us?

There’s a word I’m thinking of and it begins with T.

Words are the only way we CAN make judgements about you.

And we don’t know you.

Those would seem to be two pretty good cases for a bit of restraint.

Oh, well, gee, as long as it was because you’re upset.

It’s a good thing the salsa craze peaked and died, so you wouldn’t have to complain about wetback music, too.

We shouldn’t allow this jerk to hijack a thread; we should roast him in the Pit instead (not meant to rhyme, I swear).

So, my input: As a subscriber to Direct TV, we get MTV2 with any extra fees. MTV is almost always videos, and it’s rather nice, too.

Bloody hell.

…Excellent points Jeremy’s Evil Twin.
Excellent points, you proved very well that you aren’t as dumb as some of these coons.

What?

Fighting Racism with Racism Since 1998.

We’re not gonna do this. Take this to the Pit if you want, but this thread is closed.
