I saw a sparrow feed another sparrow

I bought a bird feeder for the first time last summer. I keep changing what a I put in it. In the past, I put in seed that sprouted. Ugh, what a pain. Now I have split sunflower seeds. Naturally, the exotic birds will have nothing to do with it. Only the sparrows like it, which is fine.

A couple of days ago I was watering, not too far from the feeder. I have the feeder hanging up on a wire. Two sparrows landed on the wire. One jumped down to the feeder, filled its beak with seeds, then flew back up to the wire next to his friend. The other sparrow opened its beak, and the sparrow with the food “fed” him (her?).

It was…absolutely adorable. I’m the type of person who doesn’t have a lot of emotion for other people, but can have my heart rendered into a puddle from silly stuff like this in the animal world.

I’ve never seen it before or since. Have you?

Yes.

Wow! That’s one thread title I didn’t think I had to look up first

And almost word for word!

It’s definitely much more adorable that the birds that engage in courtship feeding behavior by regurgitating for each other. Blecch.

Well, I guess that answers Paul Simon’s question.

That’s some seriously adorable stuff right there.
