(Paraphrasing): “Some people think the bear is tame. Some think there isn’t a bear at all. And some people pack their butts with Vaseline and wave a bottle of Smirnoff at it invitingly”
That may have been one reason a couple of clever trolls were so successful at getting attendees at the 2017 CPAC to wave Russian flags with “TRUMP” in gold letters:
…Mr Charter told Talking Points Memo that the prank went better than expected because no one in the crowd at CPAC recognised the Russian Federation’s flag…
Rather convenient of you to lop off your literal (if erroneous) description of the Final Solution. You know, sending people in trains to concentration camp in Poland and inserting what ICE is doing in place of trains, concentration camps and Poland.
It’s mixed up with a lot of dogshit in their poor noggins:
Trump likes Putin, so I like Putin! Putin wants to revive the USSR, so I like the USSR!
Putin is Christian and supports Christian values, so I like Putin!
Libs like rainbow/woke/something something, and Trump and Putin fight these. Go Trump! Go Putin!
Trump stands for law and order [= authoritarianism, but they don’t have the concept], and so does Putin–and look at how tough they are. Go Trump! Go Putin!
Sort of! Communism (or authoritarian state capitalism) allowed the USSR to industrialize rapidly, to the point of being able to defeat Germany in WWII after having lost to Germany in WWI. Mao (along with the nationalists) successfully drove out the Japanese, then proceeded to rapidly industrialize his country. “Communism” (insofar as it was that) was highly successful… to a point. Then it failed rather spectacularly, and the murderous nature of its leaders (including Pol Pot in the 1970s) became apparent and tainted its image forever.
Also the Founding Father of the US had no idea what “capitalism” was (the concept and the word itself did not yet exist), and they did not think they were establishing an economic system different from that of Britain. (Just sayin’.)
And The Wealth of Nations had just been published in… 1776. But yeah, the then-evolving protocapitalism would have looked to them like “what we are just doing anyway.”
Nice slice of four words from the middle of a sentence of a paragraph I wrote. Nothing remotely disingenuous about that at all. So, your shifted position is now that the United States government is engaging in the something analogous to The Final Solution. Via ICE. And notably the courts, which are, you know, part of the US government have declared that ICE’s deportations are illegal. But let’s just ignore that inconvenient bit.
Or does this ridiculousness of this become less apparent if you type it in all caps and throw in the word fucking?
LOOK, JUST BECAUSE WE’RE SENDING PEOPLE IN TRAINS IN PLANES TO CONCENTRATION CAMPS [SIC] PRISONS IN POLAND EL SALVADOR DOESN’T MEAN THERE’S ANY INDICATION THAT IT CAN FUCKING HAPPEN HERE.
Huh, nope, sounds just as unhinged. Probably even more unhinged in all caps and with a ‘fucking’ thrown in there to be honest.
Yes. It’s in the early stages but again; the Nazis didn’t go from zero-to-genocide instantly either.
And it will be much worse than the Holocaust, between the target population being much larger and there being no Allied forces to put a stop to the genocide before it’s complete. Nearly half the US population is non-white. Over a hundred million people to kill.
@nearwildheaven That’s why I asked which it was. Seemed someone had the idea the two were the same. They’re not. In reality, of course, the Soviet Union was the empire of the communist party of Russia (ostensibly the Communist Party of the Soviet Union) and thus was Russia, but ostensibly, nominally, and legally, Russia was merely one of the constituent republics of the USSR.
Here is a wiki page showing the USSR’s constituent republics’ flags during their time in the USSR.
You’ll note from the link you provided, Russia’s current flag was in use from 1705 to 1922 and then again from 1991 to now.
