And I haven’t even had a joint since 1987, and prior to that, 1974.
It was on the ballot here in Nevada not so long ago, and for awhile it looked like it might actually win - but was then defeated.
It is not that I want to have any.
I personally feel the drug does not lead to the “hard stuff”, as I and every friend of mine from back in my college days can attest. I think it is something that should be legal, taxed and regulated - taking it off the black market where anybody can still get it if they wanted to anyway.
Anybody driving stoned, just like driving drunk, should be put away in jail.
But I just don’t understand not legalizing a drug that is already readily available to (almost) anybody looking for it, and to forbid using a drug that, in my experience, has never lead to violence by people who use it.
It seemed really backwards to me that here in Nevada, on the same ballot, decriminalization of marijuana was REJECTED while a consitutional gay marriage ban was PASSED. It seems like we should be some of the first in line to legalize, considering the big fun party atmosphere of Vegas, and the last to want to “protect marriage”, with our reputation for drive-thru weddings.
Crazy, I tell ya. I’m hoping that the marijuana decriminalization question comes up again. I know there has been a continuous decriminalization ad campaign for what seems like a couple years now, maybe it could pass this time around.
I have never smoked pot my self, not even tried it, but I would vote to allow it to become legal. I do not think it is any worse than booze, which I like to drink.
If it were legal I might try it, although I detest smoking, so maybe not. Well, maybe in a cookie.
During my time in Hawaii, we also had a vote to legalize. It passed with a large majority, then the brilliant Governor :wally went on T.V. and said…
“I don’t think so”. Why even have a vote?
