I so do this...

Do you ever type a long and thoughtful comment, then think, “Fuckit, who cares”, then cancel?

For me, it’s usually new threads. I started one about how great my Mom was, for example, then canceled it.

more than 99% of my postings I delete instead of hitting post

Yup.

Maybe I’ll even cancel this one.

Nope. I guess not.

I have a medical condition that removes the barrier between my brain, my mouth, and my fingers, so I don’t have this problem.

OK, I don’t have a medical condition, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

NO!! I am a vibrant, exuberant, ebullient person (Hi, Creaky!) and I always say exactly what I think and just how I feel and express myself thoroughly and … I would not recommend this as a policy.

I can’t help it. I’m Italian.

I do, and for all the reasons listed and more. Particularly if I’m not completely sure of my statement, but can’t be arsed to look for a cite. If you really knew me, you would be completely unsurprised by how often I do this.

Yup. I don’t know why I post some of the things I do, and why I delete others. Just how the mood takes me, I guess.

Seems like a fairly common thing to do!

Yup.
Some of my thread ideas sound great in my head, but I can’t put them down in words.

Sometimes. More often I kill a post because I realize I don’t have the time to put into making a long and thoughtful post. And often I find I lack the interest to defend my point of view later, so I don’t bother.

There has been a number of times I’ve started typing out a personal anecdote relating to a thread and then changed my mind because I either couldn’t get it phrased properly, or decided that I didn’t want to share that part of myself after all.

Despite too-frequent instances of foot-in-mouth syndrome, I often cancel messages.

I do it too. Glad to find myself in great company.

I usually quit before writing the long, thoughtful post, because it just seems like too much work, or that it’ll be another ignored post.

I do this all the time for all those reasons. My post count should be much higher. Another reason on this particular board, is that it can be intimidating sometimes. There are so many people way more educated and just plain smarter than me here.

Also, who else other than myself will start an OP, then become almost instantly disinterested in the answer or dialogue after. Sometimes an OP will feel like the most important thing in the world, then after I post, I wonder what the hell I was thinking. Maybe I’m just too impuls-- OHH! SHINEY!..

This is usually why I delete a post. I’ll be halfway through responding to something with a lot of pertinent stuff to say, when I realise that I don’t actually have any evidence to support my ideas, and in fact am quite possibly 100% wrong, and so abandon it.

I also do it with a new thread, where I realise I’m just hoping people will agree with me on something, and not to actually make any point worth paying attention to.

I think I mentioned somewhere in a post on the SDMB that my post count would be easily 20,000 if I submitted every reply I started.

Mostly, I realize that people really just don’t care what I have to say. Occasionally it’s simply because I foresee how someone’s going to respond, and can’t be arsed to get into that discussion.

In fact, if it wasn’t for alcohol, I suspect my post count would be more like 500 than 2500.

That’s when you stick an “In my opinion” in front of it.
