I suck at cake - a tale of failure and ego (v. long, pointless)

Honey, you are way too hard on yourself. You made a recognizable character cake with very little experience and under trying conditions. Besides, as long as it tastes good, nobody cares how it looks once it’s on their plate!

And thanks for the compliments to me and Fast Eddie!

BTW, to make those Snickerdoodles really snappy, use Vietnamese cinnamon instead of Ceylon.

Bless you! I’m very excited, and will be purchasing the necessaries next time I get to the store. Thanks for sharing - I never mind sharing mine, but I know some people really guard their secrets closely.

And I use the same method when purchasing things for the kitchen. “Honey, I know it’s an expensive pot, but look! I’m going to make Shepherd’s Pie in it! You love Shepherd’s Pie! Mmmmmm …”

Oh, and I was going to tell you earlier: I’ve now taken a cake decorating class and can do pansies and trim quite respectably, but I once tried to decorate a cake without any instruction. You did vastly better than I did. Still tasted good, though.

Bolding mine -

That’s pretty much the same line I used to justify buying a $50 saucepan a few weeks ago (stainless steel, fully stainless lid & handle. Cleans like a frikkin’ DREAM, no sticky foods anywhere!) - “But, but… I need a bigger casserole dish to cook you chicken/beef casserole in. It needs to be able to go into the oven. You mean I can’t have the $170 Le Creuset casserole dish? How about this saucepan? It’s $50, down from $80. Yaaay. Chicken casserole.”

I’m going to make brownies tomorrow, which should help expedite the mending. Mmm brownies.

Oh no, I will have to buy another variety of cinnamon. Whatever will I do!

No point in keeping it confined to my kitchen, although I do have some secrets. Not many, though.

Clockwork Jackal – that cake sounds delicious. Expensive, but delicious!

Send it to California - I’ll eat it! Lime is one of my favorite fruit flavors. Even better in cheesecake form, yum.

Lime cheesecake, eh? I too am a citrus freak (as you might have guessed from my orange variaton of banana loaf).

I got a recipe for brownies from a quick search on the internet a while ago, and I think they were the best brownies I’ve ever had. Yay technology! Jim was watching Nigella Lawson make brownies (she’s his favourite - he’s madly in love with her), and she put something like six eggs in them! Everything she makes looks awesome, though - I think I’ll have to break down and buy one of her cookbooks.

Hehe. Lime cheesecake is MINE!!

It took hubby and me only 2 days to polish off most of it. There’s one little slice left, and it’s mine for later this afternoon I think.

Had to go through half a dozen limes to make it, though. And they’re not cheap. But it was totally worth it. I’d left cheesecakes alone for a long time because I was a bit afraid of ruining something I love. But now I’m busy thinking up all the different cheesecake flavours I could make. Seriously I’m considering a chocolate-orange cheesecake.
