But that’s not ALL I’ve said. I thought I explained myself pretty well already. There seem to be alot of people in this thread who hear what they want instead of what’s written (again, not referring to you). Oh well. It’s a really silly argument to be involved in on the internet.
In the real world, when you’re writing or editing or teaching or whatnot, you follow certain rules and you don’t get into detailed philosophical nitpicking arguments about where they came from or whether they are valid or whatever. It’s understood that language is a balance between following rules and changing them, otherwise it couldn’t work. That’s how things get done. Maybe sometimes you get into those kinds of conversations, but you certainly don’t attack people over it. Too much attacking here, and not enough discussion. I guess it’s the pit though and I shouldn’t be surprised.
