I think I have a problem with commitment

I don’t know about the rest of the minions around here, but does anyone else here read a post, hit the reply button, start to type out something unbelievably great and creative, and then just say, ‘Aaaa, Fuck it’?

It’s happened about five times tonight. I read a thread and think of something I’d like to add to it, get to the writing phase of the process, and, well, nothing. I back out of it and move on.

Later when I’m re-reading the thread, I recall seeing it before and the post I thought I made, smile, because it was really good, scroll down and find nothing!!

This is beginning to piss me off.

well, i don’t look for my non-posts later; i just yell at myself for not posting. same idea though

I had the same problem. Now I find I’m having shorter thoughts. I chalk it up to a shortening of the national attention span.

Sheesh.

Two almost instantaneous responses to the thread (How’d you do that, anyway?) and then nothing.

I see I’m not the only one with this problem.

All the time. Its an issue.

drugs? Therapy? A support group?

Le Sang, if this is you practicing restraint, I don’t want to think about what you want to share…

CnoteChris, I do that all the time. Usually, when I start to reply, I think that I have something of value or insight to provide, but as I start typing I realize, upon further reflection, that either I don’t really have a cogent response, or I’m simply rehashing something already posted by another.

In the unusual cases, I realize that whatever smart-ass response I thought of simply wasn’t that humorous.

I think it’s pretty useful that my typing is slower than my mind or my mouth in responding.

That’d be one quiet support group if it were online.

Do you get dissapointed when re-read it later and see that it would have added to it rather than hurt it?

That’s what always ticks me off. And, AND, some of the one’s I do respond to I wish I hadn’t later on. Damned if I do or don’t. Pisser.

I typed out a long, thoughtful & provocative response to this thread.

I then decided not to post it.

I then decided I should post something.

I don’t have the time or inclination to retype my original post.

I do that all the time - and I don’t doubt the sum of human knowlege is better off when most of my contributions die aborning. In fact, you’re all invited to my 1000th non-post party.

hmm… should I start posting in the TMI thread then?

I think the only responses I make that I later wish I hadn’t are the few I’ve made while under the influence of grain-based liquids. Fortunately, that doesn’t happen to often, because I’m one of those folks who loves everyone while drinking, so I tend to get sappy. (Not to mention often missing the point of the OP.)

One of the things which annoys me is finding old threads and wishing that I was around here at the time the thread was started so as to be able to comment in a timely fashion. Ah well.

CnoteChris, glad you like the name.

YES. All the time. Its especially annoying when you get signed off and go to rewrite the post and then decide not to…I really should start posting more.
