Well, United says our flight is on, but their partner Lufthansa (which is the airline we’re using) says our flight to Frankfurt today is cancelled. 45 minutes on hold, only to get “Because of technical difficulties, we’re unable to route your call” and then disconnect.
Shit!
The weather is very messy in Germany and currently most (if not all) flights are delayed/cancelled…I was told at one point that the airport was closed however their website claims that it’s ‘only’ delays and cancellations

Even if you have pre-paid, non refundable hotel reservations, I would still encourage you to get in touch with the hotel and see if you can at least get credit for a future stay (I wouldn’t hold my breath on a cash refund, however). Maybe in order to keep the goodwill of would-be guests, they will work with you due to the circumstances of the blizzard.
Finally, if it were me, I think I would be headed out to the local liquor warehouse and get myself a case of Binding Pils or some other favorite German brew—If you can’t get to Frankfurt, you can at least bring Frankfurt to you!!!

Oh shit, be thankful that you are not in transit. We just got home from four days and three nights stuck in transit at Frankfurt airport. I never saw the clowns but I did see the armed police breaking up the many fist fights as people tried to queue jump.
But it wasn’t Heathrow, so the toilets were clean and it was warm, and there was water and food provided. So we were lucky!
