I think today marks 'The Day' in my books...

I over heard a user here at work ask:

“What’s a ‘DOS Prompt’?”

I guess DOS is officially dead.
Sorry…one of those things that I found amusing today.

What things have you overheard in your office that made you stop and take notice?

Um, well, even when DOS was the way things got done, I knew people who had no clue what it was…Was this a technical person saying that, or just a John Dope?

Just a Jon Dope.

I just struck me as funny as I have never heard someone say that.

Most of the folks I know (techie or other wise) know what DOS is/was, but just didn’t touch it out of fear.

Err,…What is a DOS Prompt?

The term ‘DOS Prompt’ stems from a 15th century revolt (War of the Roses) in England in which the Duke Of Salisbury was a participant. He teamed up with the Duke of York and led an army of 3,000 against then-king Henry VI. The king had refused to remove the Duke of Somerset from his position of power at the prompting of DOY and DOS. The revolt was successful and the Dukes returned to power.

So, in short, a ‘DOS Prompt’ usually means that somebody wants something in the worst way and they are willing to back their “prompt” with an army of thousands. I’d suggest you give them whatever it is they want.

I hope we’ve all learned a little something about history and computers today.

My boss complimenting me on my knowledge of computers and ability to speak the tech speak - all because I referred to a scroll bar!

[take 2 - curse you login thingy!!!]

I just started work as a manager of a cargo hub and I was talking to one of the supervisors about the staff and suchlike when he said “See that guy? He’s a great worker but he does like to have a laugh and joke with the freight…”

Me “Errrr… ok”

"Please stop, Dave.

Dave, will you please stop?

I’m frightened, Dave,"
