I Think Trump has accidentally done a great thing for this country.

… By being a clueless, inept, desperate, dumbfuck.

I think this time with the George Floyd situation is different. It just feels different to me. and I think it feels different to society. I was actually thinking that they day it happened, but was afraid it was only my personal mindset. But as things continue, it seems the divisiveness he always cultured is coming to fruition. I could be wrong of course, but this feels like an actual cultural monolith. People, and more importantly companies, are reacting as if it is a moment where they can, and have to, choose A or B, and commit to good over evil.
There is no “he said, he said but the evidence is unclear”, not Trayvon Martin, not Ferguson. Just a clear cut piece-of-shit wearing a badge smirking as he murders a man.

And in his usual stumbling, the fool has only threatened to violate the constitution, to stop a “threat” most of the country is in support of. I have long said that Trump has no chance in any election whatsoever. But in the new reality of Covid, he may have Klutzed his way into the forcing a reaction of the greatest civil rights moment since MLK, and losing all branches.

ohh, shit. Can a mod please replace “actually” with “accidentally” (stupid auto correct) in the title, I don’t mean to troll.

sorry.

I think it will depend on how much Trump can play on America’s enduring fear of the black man. That Karen who called the cops on the birdwatcher in Central Park was a Democrat.

Having said that, Trump has answered his own “what have you got to lose?” question. Your life. Your literal actual life. He absolutely supports police murdering people of color. He encourages it. He’s worked hard to get to this moment. He’s not going to be able to campaign on his economic record (although he will still lie about it and say his economy is the best ever). All he has left is fear.

Should probably change the title to “Akshually”

I really wish I was as optimistic as you. I agree that this feels different, but every other time Trump has trampled on American values, even if he realized what he was doing was unpopular and pulled back, the mere suggestion heavily shifted the overton window towards authoritarianism.

I don’t think US institutions are strong enough generally to be able to rebound from everything Trump has done, and whatever remains will become normal for both people who work in government and the public at large.

I really hope the recent naked display of institutionalized racism and police brutality at least results in a societal/attitude shift in the long-term, which I think is the most likely good to come out of this.

Of course President Trump does not support poilce murdering people of color, that is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. Most all karen’s are democrat.

I think you misspelled Police as poilce,
also Karen as karen,( inclusive of ( Karen’s as karen’s respectively))
also Democrat as democrat.
also It seems you have also spelled I AM AN IDIOT TROLLS as thunderdog.

I know some people argue that Trump is so outrageously and obviously horrible that he will take down the entire conservative movement when he falls. I have my doubts. I think the conservative movement will just twist away from the consequences of having backed Trump like they’ve twisted away from the consequences of past bad decisions. The people who bought Trump’s bullshit aren’t going to disappear; they’ll be out there waiting for the next pack of lies and somebody in the RNC is already working on Operation After Trump.

And let’s not ignore the effect of Trump lowering the bar. American politics has dropped to a new low level of what’s acceptable. The new next sleazy President will only have to try to look better than Donald Trump in order to look good. I know the saying is that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger but that’s not true; sometimes what doesn’t kill you leaves you maimed and weaker for the rest of your life. And that will be Trump’s legacy to America; he’s maimed us.

Well maybe not police murdering themselves, but he’s all for police brutality and the justice system murdering innocent black people. He’s so for it that he bought an ad and signed his name to it. He still stands by it, too, as of June 2019.

In practice, most racism African-Americans actually experience is from Democrats. It’s not rednecks in Oklahoma that perpetuate systemic racism. It’s white affluent liberals in the cities.

As for Trump, he’s done a lot of great things for the country unintentionally:

  1. We now know exactly what a President is good for, simply by seeing what’s not working with Trump, but also for what is. We’ve basically had no President for the last four years and it’s instructive to see what continues to function well and what doesn’t.

  2. I think the era of the TV politician is over. That scripted, practiced, coached candidate who learns just enough to go on TV and not look foolish doesn’t wash in the social media era. You can’t get away with having two positions on the same issue any more or just “evolving” in ways convenient to your next campaign. One thing Biden has in common with Trump is bluntness and let’s be kind and say, “lack of polish”. All the scripted flip floppers fell before Biden like muggers falling before Mr. Magoo.

  3. He’s bringing about a realignment that is long overdue, and possibly may have provoked a civil war in both parties which will be ugly in the short term but beneficial in the long run. Or not. I can see a bad end to this as well, with a socialist party vs. a nativist party. But I’m an optimist.

That’ll earn you a warning, wolfman.

If you think another poster is trolling you should report the post, not make an accusation. Please don’t do it again.

Do you think Trump is going to allow that? He’s going to expect them to keep kissing his ass as long as he is alive and will have enough of their base in his hold to make sure it happens.

If he loses that depends on how badly he loses.

If the murder of George Floyd leads to better race relations in this country, it wasn’t Donald Motherfucking Trump who did that. Yeah, he fucked up the response to the protests, but that’s just Trump doing his thing. Trump certainly has not done a great thing for this country.

Please provide a cite for this claim. Thanks!

It doesn’t matter how badly he loses he will keep hold of enough to the Republican base that he can easily control their destiny as long as he lives. They are already at a disadvantage, even 1% would be crippling.

Democrats run the cities where most of the protests are occurring, and make the sweetheart deals with the police unions that shield them from accountability. When affordable housing projects are proposed, it’s affluent white liberals who run to the city council meetings to oppose them. And it’s not Arkansas rednecks who are gentrifying the big cities.

Yeah, how many of us said that in 2016?

The only good thing about this administration is that it has exposed a lot of things that we didn’t realize were going on, or at least to this extent.

Everything is awesome if you learn from it.

I think nobody will even bother to ask him.

Trump voters, by definition, believe whatever they’re told. As soon as the Republican Party decides to dump Trump they’ll make up some story and scoop up his base.

adaher, to cite something means to quote a factual reference to support your claim. It doesn’t mean to provide more of your unsubstantiated opinions.
